WIAA - Salute to Coaches
Congrats Coach Verity
We have some amazing coaches at Newport High School. Coach Verity has received this honor for the month of October.
The WIAA is proudly teaming up with the U.S. Army to recognize and reward some of the most outstanding team leaders in Washington. There are countless WIAA coaches whose commitment helps student-participants reach their full potential. Whether they’re a Head Coach or Assistant, we want to highlight their contributions! If you know a coach who personifies any of the U.S. Army Values of LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY and PERSONAL COURAGE please click the link below to nominate them for recognition!
WSU Regents Scholars Program.
Congratulations to Chase Warren and Olivia Sears for being selected as Newport School District’s nominees for the WSU Regents Scholars Program.
This program looks for top performing high school students that demonstrate themselves as community leaders, academic innovators, and committed scholars. The nominees apply for the Regents Scholars award, which provides $4,000 per academic year for four years and a chance to compete for the Distinguished Regents Scholars Award, which covers full tuition and fees for four years.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
FAFSA is now available and it is easier than ever!!!
Seniors, fill out your FAFSA form! The information is used for trade schools, apprenticeship programs, community college, universities, and some scholarships. The sooner you apply, the more likely there will be money available to award, and many of you may be pleasantly surprised to find that your post-secondary plans ARE financially possible. The application our seniors need to complete is the 2025-2026 application, and it just opened up.
The first step is the creation of the FSA ID. I will be available before winter break in the high school library/College & Career Center on December 12th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm to help families start/complete their FAFSA if you’d like to stop by. As always, you are welcome to email or call and I will help as well. I was truly surprised at how much easier the process was this year.
Financial Aid Applications:
Please complete the FAFSA application. This can be used to fund trade schools, apprenticeships, colleges, and universities. Many of these post-secondary programs also rely on the FAFSA when awarding merit based scholarships so it is important to apply.
Step 1: Create an FSA ID: Start Here
All that is needed:
Student’s Social Security Number
Student’s Personal Email (please make sure it’s your personal email address so you can access it after you graduate.)
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA Form: Student Aid Website
All that is needed with this new form:
Your newly created FSA ID (see above)
The Social Security Number and date of birth for ONE of your parents.
That’s it!!! Consider taking time this weekend.
If you do need help, please contact me or come in December 12 (available between 3-6)
If you are not eligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status, defaulted federal loans, or other issues with federal aid, file the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid). Learn more and apply on the WASFA page.
College Applications:
Application Deadlines: If you already know of colleges/programs you are interested in, please check the application deadlines. Some general admission deadlines are coming up within the next month.
Scholarship Applications:
Please look at the emails Mrs. Phillips is sending out regarding scholarship applications. You will get an email with each new application as well as an updated list weekly.
Thinking of you, and your futures!
Take care,
