The Greeks wanted freedom from the Ottoman Empire. This was because the the Ottomans were imposing taxes and becoming extremely oppressive over the Greeks. The Greeks were also viewed as unequal when compared to the Ottomans. Htis led to rivalries between the empires.

The Ottoman Turks and the Greeks
The Ottomans had ruled over the Greeks since 1453, when they took over Constantinople. They didn't change much until more recent times. They imposed new taxes and became oppressive towards the Greeks. The Greeks wanted independence.
Results
This resulted in the war of indepence. Greece increased their power and took Islamic religion back. Slaves were let go, which caused refugees.
Lasting Effects
This led to everything returning to the original state of Greek politics. Also, new constitutional crisis.
