Congratulations to Ben Bunde (10) who was awarded the November 2024 Gilbert Town Council Student Citizen of the Month for Perry High School! Ben was nominated by his teacher, Ms. Stueber, who had this to say about him:

Ben is not only an exceptional student, but he is an amazing individual. Prior to the start of the school year, Ben visited all of his teachers to introduce himself with a warm smile and a confident handshake. As a student in the classroom, Ben is very disciplined. He is always on time, listens to and follows instructions, and participates in activities. He takes pride in his work and excels in academics for his efforts. He makes it a point to express his gratitude and wish his teachers a good day before leaving for his next class. Ben's thoughtfulness extends to his peers as well, as Ben is active in the Puma Pals club on campus. It is no surprise that Ben looks forward to a future career that involves helping others as he would like to be a firefighter.

Since 1958, the Chandler Service Club has been committed to supporting education as a means of building healthy families. We offer scholarships to Chandler residents, both high school seniors and adults pursuing college or trade school education. The Helen Pernell and Jewell Lewis Community Scholarships are intended to assist deserving Chandler residents who demonstrate strong character, potential, and financial need.

Perry Pumatronix began their rookie season this past Saturday, January 4th. The team of students now will spend the next six weeks tackling this year's challenge, which is a game called "Reefscape". The team will design, build, program, and drive a robot around 120lb. in the water-themed game where they will gather "algae" and "coral" to score points. They will be competing with teams from across Arizona, and international teams, in the Arizona East FRC Regional at Corona Del Sol High School, March 20-22nd, 2025, in hopes to earn a coveted spot at the World Championships in Houston held in April. The culinary advanced students in year 2 learned to convert from metric to standard measurements. The students had to convert a recipe, make cupcakes from scratch and then decorate them with a winter theme and here are some of the most creative designs.

Culinary 3 students had to design, construct, and decorate a gingerbread structure from scratch. The students were very creative and designed a greenhouse that had fondant carrots, and a flower bed, a campsite with a tent that even had a blowup mattress and a fire, and a beach house with a pool. The students made shopping lists, designed their own templates, made dough from scratch, cut them out and get the structure to stand!

Seniors in Mrs. Tompkins' AP Government transformed C207 into the Supreme Court. 9 Justices, 4 lawyers, law clerks-- and even a sketch artist experienced Timbs v Indiana. Now these Seniors in the Class of '25 know just how the 8th Amendment of the Constitution incorporated to the states.

After school last Friday, the Perry High School Key Club came together to spread some warmth and kindness by making cozy blankets for Project Linus! 💖🧣 With lots of love and teamwork, these blankets will bring comfort to children in need. It's amazing to see our students using their time and talents to make a difference in the community. Way to go, Key Club! 🌟 #ServiceWithHeart #KeyClubCares #ProjectLinus #PerryPride

Perry's JV Pom team competed at the Dance Team Union Regional competition on Dec. 7th. They earned 1st place in Game Day, 1st place in Jazz and 4th in Pom! We are incredibly proud of this team and the dedication they continue to show throughout the season.

Parents of Seniors – CEF Scholarship Applications Open January 6!

The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) offers more than 200 scholarship awards for CUSD graduating seniors.

The CEF scholarship Application portal will open Monday, January 6, and the deadline to submit is Monday, March 24. This includes the application form, essays, and all required documents for the IMPACT, Donor, and Foundation scholarships.

Winter break is a great time for students to get ahead! If they haven’t already, encourage your student to:

· Gather references (contact info and permission) from teachers, coaches, or mentors.

· Create a list of activities, awards, and leadership roles in school or the community.

· Outline their future goals for college or career and plans to achieve them.

· Include any special considerations evaluators should know.

Taking time over the break, away from classes and homework, can make their application stronger and improve their chances of earning a financial award.

As part of our efforts to maintain a safe, secure online experience for students, Chandler Unified School District uses a technology tool known as Lightspeed in grades K-12.

Lightspeed will flag content referencing intentions of violence, drug and alcohol use, sex, self-harm, hate speech, pornography, etc. It will also analyze images to block pornography and obscene visuals from reaching students.

Lightspeed representative review google files throughout the day and night and send alerts to administrators at the school and the district office. School administrators will contact parents/guardians when an alert is received. If a parent/guardian cannot be reached, administrators will contact local law enforcement to request a well-check on students of alerts regarding threats of self-harm.

All school rules apply to the content on a student's Google Drive. Students are encouraged to practice responsible digital citizenship.

Lightspeed Alert is another tool CUSD uses. This tool is an anonymous tip line for students to share concerns about school safety and the well-being of fellow students. Trained professionals evaluate content and send an email regarding non-life-threatening items to school administrators. They will also call school officials in emergency situations and can even contact local law enforcement.

Students may report:

- Bullying

- Planned fights

Students in crisis

- Threats of violence

- Weapons brought to school

- Other urgent situations

We wanted to remind all parents and students: We do not allow outside food deliveries to campus (ex. Doordash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, parent drop-offs) or any other type of food deliveries to campus for students during the day. Deliveries will be turned away.

To help parents and students learn more about this initiative, we have created our 1:1 Student Guide website, which you can find at https://1to1.gse.cusd80.com. There is a lot of information on this website, but we feel it is important to the success of this initiative to clearly communicate all of it to our parents and students. We encourage all of you to review this information with your child(ren) so you have a clear understanding of device expectations, maintenance, etc.

Parents and students. Our District and school use a program called Lightspeed on student devices. Lightspeed will notify District and school administration immediately if there are any “key” inappropriate words, phrases and/or photos used/found on the device. This is active anytime the student is on their student device. This includes afterschool hours and on the weekends.

Please remind your student to use their device for educational purposes only. Students found not using their device appropriately risk possible discipline and/ or loss of technology privilege's. It is important the student devices are used properly and for the purpose of education.

Student passwords (both AD/Microsoft and Google) will be reset as follows:

Pattern: first initial + last initial + birthdate (MMDDYY format)

Example: sophomore Ani Smith whose birthday is October 3, 2007 will have their password reset to as100307

7-12 students will be forced to change their password after it is reset

Students can change their Google password by logging in to their Google account (accounts.google.com) with their reset password on any device, at school or at home

• Username for Google is s+id@gse.cusd80.com – example s123456@gse.cusd80.com

Students can change their Microsoft password by either:

· logging on to a CUSD Windows device with their reset password, or

· logging in to the Microsoft portal (myaccount.microsoft.com) with their reset password on any device at school or at home.

• Username for Microsoft is s+id@s.cusd80.com – example s123456@s.cusd80.com

All 2-12 students must change their Microsoft password after it is reset before accessing Infinite Campus.

As part of the 1:1 technology initiative, a student fee of $25 will be added annually to InTouch to enroll in the Device Protection Plan (DPP). Annual enrollment in the plan will minimize the potential repair and/or replacement fees associated with the device.

This year, the fee will be added to accounts on Monday, August 5. The fee must be paid by the due date (Monday, September 2) in order to be enrolled in the plan (click here for instructions to pay the fee in Infinite Campus). All devices will be considered covered by the Device Protection Plan until September 2. If the fee is not paid by September 2, it is implied that the family is opting out of the annual DPP coverage, and although the fee will be shown as "overdue" in InTouch, there is no additional action required on your part. After September 2, you may enroll in the Device Protection Plan only after an inspection of the device at your school's Tech Center.

Students renewing their annual DPP will have continued coverage as long as the payment is made by Monday, September 2.

Students adding the DPP for the first time will need to have their device inspected and enrollment in the DPP does not begin until the fee payment has been received. There will be no refunds given on DPP purchase if a student leaves CUSD or upon graduation. The fee is not prorated for any reason.

The parking application is an online application. You must have a Google email to apply for a parking permit. You can use your student GSE account or any Gmail address to apply.

Please be sure to fill out the entire application form and submit the required documents for application review. Have your required documents ready (Driver's License, Registration, Proof of Insurance).

Applications are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

1. Once your application is approved, we will notify you via email and add the $80.00 parking fee to your account on Infinite Campus. CHECK YOUR EMAIL.
2. Payments will be accepted online via your parent portal, Infinite Campus.
3. Your parking pass will be available for pick up. Please see the schedule below.
4. Proof of ID, Proof of Payment and your Class Schedule are required to pick up your tag.

24-25 PHS Student Parking Application

A student activity pass will be available to purchase during Puma Days. The cost is $35.00. This pass entitles students to free admission to all home athletic contests except A.I.A. tournaments. With the card, some social activities on campus will have reduced costs. The pass will double as a student I.D. for school activities. The replacement cost is $5.00.

Arizona law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household; and $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married filing separate return — for contributions that fund extracurricular activities in public schools. A tax credit is a full refund, not a deduction.

Both the city of Gilbert and city of Chandler have issued two new safety ordinances effective June 24th: Unruly Gathering Law and Brass Knuckles Law.

Unruly Gathering Law- violators can be issued a citation and fined or they can be charged with a class one misdemeanor if any of the following occur at a gathering: person under 21 possessing or consuming alcohol, illegal drugs, act designated as a felony under state law, a physical altercation that causes bodily injury, or previous citation for unruly gatherings within 180 days.

Brass Knuckles Law- people under the age of 18 are prohibited from possessing or purchasing brass knuckles, businesses must confirm that that purchaser is at least 18 years old, people and businesses who violate this law can be charged with a class one misdemeanor.
