Give to the Max Day / FSO Donations: FSO is being asked to fund a lot this year - enrichment field trips and author visits and library materials and much more. We also hope to have funds for staff appreciation and other activities later this year. But that all takes money and we need your help to make sure we can keep saying "yes" to staff and student requests for support. This Thursday, Nov. 21st is Give To The Max day and if you are able to make an online donation to support the work - we would appreciate that! Donations of any amount are welcome! Don't want to give online, but still want to give? You can bring cash and checks to the main office. More information on FSO available on our webpage. All donations to the FSO are tax deductible (Tax ID: 81-1445725)
Classroom Updates
Hidden River Middle School 6th Graders will be participating in an Author's Visit with Kao Kalia Yang at Hamline University on Wednesday, Nov 20 from 8:45-10:45. A small group will stay for a special writers workshop from 10:30-11:30 Your 6th grader has permission to attend this walking field trip from the Back to School iUpdate forms if completed or you can send your signature to their foundations teachers using the attached Field Trip permission form. You can complete iUpdate here (https://www.spps.org/families/campus-parent-portal-onestop) or reach out to family liaison Wendy Caucutt here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScdV_W1oq36atcWMeKP9vsFPlQHbBKLGiue9fYPYesphB11jw/viewform?usp=sf_link
Please make sure your 6th grader has weather-appropriate gear for the short walk! And ask your child what they might have learned from the author's perspective on identity, reading, & writing.
We also have a goal is for each student to receive a copy of her new middle-grade novel to enhance their learning experience. Can you purchase a book for a 6th grader? Use this link to add a copy to our school so we can distribute it to all 6th graders. Thank you for your support!
Art - Ms. Rolig
-toilet paper & paper towel tubes
-small cardboard boxes (tissue boxes or smaller)
-interesting cardboard packaging
-egg cartons, etc.
If you have some of these items filling up your recycle bin, send them in with your student! Fiber Arts is another popular studio right now. If you have any crochet hooks, knitting needles or sewing needles you are no longer using, we have many budding fiber artists that could put them to use. Thank you!

Family Engagement - Keep Connected 360
Keep Connected Family Engagement Partnership with Search Institute and Change Inc.:
We are honored to once again partner with Search Institute and Change Inc. to offer a pilot program to Hidden River families this year as we work to strengthen relationships within families and among Hidden River families through a generous grant. Keep Connected 360 offers resources to families, including tips, ideas, activities and learning opportunities to support strong family relationships.
This Week’s Talk Starters Focus: Encourage each other to stretch toward goals. This is a great way to CHALLENGE GROWTH in your family relationships.
When you have a few minutes, ask other family members a question or two. Enjoy the conversation!
- What is a “stretch goal” you have for yourself? (A stretch goal is a goal that you will only accomplish with a lot of effort—if you “stretch” to reach it.) How can others in your family encourage you?
- Who is someone who pushes you (not too much and not too little) to reach toward your own goals or dreams? How does their encouragement help you?
