A message from SLHS
Thank you to many of you in our school community who support us. Our partnership matters to us at SLHS. If you have any additional needs, please contact us.
We want to take a moment to clarify how we utilize modified lockdowns, which are different from a traditional lockdown in the face of an active threat.
Modified Lockdowns are used in situations where we need to clear hallways quickly and keep them cleared. Teachers lock doors and continue to teach, however, no passes are allowed. We have utilized them for medical emergencies, and other emergencies that do not pose an active threat to the greater school community. If you would like more information, please feel free to make an appointment with any administrator at SLHS.
Thank you!
Hispanic Heritage Month!
From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of individuals with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Originally established in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week, it became a month-long celebration in 1988 We at SLHS join our amazing Hispanic staff, students, and community in celebration of their enormous contribution to our school and our community.
South Sound Pow Wow
South Sound Pow Wow is September 28 and we are very excited to announce that this year’s South Sound Pow Wow will be held at Bethel High School! Learn more HERE
SLHS Commemorates 9/11
Spanaway Lake's NJROTC partnered with Army and Air Force JROTC units to honor the memory of 9/11. The event was hosted at Graham Kapowsin High School, where they collaborated to form a unified color guard and present the flags during the remembrance ceremony. This partnership across military branches symbolizes our shared commitment to service and paying tribute to those who were affected by the tragic events of 9/11.
Picture Day!
Lifetouch will come to Spanaway Lake to finish with pictures on 9/17 and retakes will be now on 10/22. Stay put for an updated flyer with all the details in next week's S'more!

SLHS Tardy Policy
SLHS Tardy Policy is as follows:
- When a student accumulates 5 tardies is contact home
- When a student accumulates 10 is a lunch detention
- When a student accumulates 15 is an after school detention
- When a student accumulates 20 is a parent meeting with grade level administrator.
If students skip detention there will be progressive discipline from their administrator.
Our goal at SLHS is to help students be successful and get to class on time!
Students Leaving Campus During Lunch
We've received reports of students spending time off-campus during lunch, particularly on 14th Street. If you notice your student there (via cellphone tracking or conversation), please encourage them to return to campus. There have been incidents of fights and drug use in the area. As a reminder, we are a closed campus, and students are not allowed to leave during lunch. We appreciate your support in keeping them on school grounds.
The Writing Lab!
Need help with that tough ELA assignment? Come by the writing lab in room 207!
The writing lab is a workshop focused on improving students' written assignments. Our goal is to help students enhance their writing skills with guidance from peer tutors and Ms. Baker. Students should come prepared with their materials and assignments, whether they're assigned to the lab or seeking help. The writing lab is open during all three lunches. For sign-up info, ask your teachers or stop by room 207.
Reminders about Dress Code
We would like to remind you of the SLHS dress code; please read it HERE or in the Student Handbook.
We've noticed some students wearing hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and backpacks with logos related to marijuana dispensaries or the Playboy logo. Please remind your students to avoid clothing with such logos or any symbols of drugs, profanity, or tobacco products, as they are not allowed at school.
Students wearing these items will be asked to turn their clothing inside out or change as a first warning, and disciplinary action may follow if it continues.
Parking and Dropping off/Picking up Students
If you're dropping off or picking up your student or driving yourself, please be mindful of pedestrians and parking lot congestion. Drop off/pick up promptly and keep moving. Avoid driving in the wrong lane or parking near gates to keep traffic flowing.
Be considerate of buses and avoid blocking their access. Keep an eye on traffic on 168th.
Thank you for your cooperation—arriving a bit earlier helps!
