Using Data to Make Decisions
Hello Oakwood Families!
As we enter the last 4 weeks of school, our teachers will be working hard with your students to complete our own end-of-year assessments. These assessments will measure their growth in our core subject areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics.
This week, have a conversation with your student about doing their best. As we collect information about how your student is doing on their assessments, we will continue to use the information that we get to make decisions about how to better support your child for the rest of this year and beyond. This means that we want to ensure that students have done their best so that we have accurate information about what they need for support.
Here are some general tips to support your conversation at home:
- Students should read through their questions and answers more than one time
- Students don't need to get frustrated if they don't know an answer! Many of our assessments are adaptive... This means that they are designed to challenge your student with questions ABOVE their grade level to determine how much they know.
- Students should take a mental break if they need it; this can be as simple as sitting back and resting their brains for a moment (teachers can help with this too)
- Students should continue to eat breakfast before school each day (it's free here at Oakwood!)
- Students should get a good amount of rest before school each day
With your help, we can continue to help develop successful citizens of the world.
