State Spring Math and Reading Testing is Coming Up - Let's Prepare!
All 6th and 7th grade students will participate in state testing in the subjects of math and reading. The state of Maine uses the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment. Students will be taking each subject test during their scheduled math class and ELA class over a two day period. We strongly encourage attendance and a positive can-do attitude; as well as the strategies listed below for all students to have a successful testing experience.
Test Week & Test Day Strategies
-
Get Good Sleep - Aim for 8–9 hours of sleep each night leading up to the test.
-
Eat a Healthy Breakfast - Avoid sugary foods; go for protein and complex carbs.
-
Arrive Early and Prepared - Bring required materials (e.g., pencils and erasers) arrive to class with time to spare.
-
Stay Calm and Focused - Practice deep breathing or visualization techniques to stay relaxed.
-
Use Time Wisely - Don’t rush, but also don’t spend too long on one question—mark it and come back if needed.
YEARBOOK ORDER DEADLINE IS APPROACHING!
Yearbooks are still on sale! There are order forms in the NMS front office. Students can also check in with Ms. Shain or Ms. Ledoux to order. The cost is $40. Yearbooks are usually distributed the last week of school and students often miss out on the chance of ordering that late. Extra ordered yearbooks are first come first serve and only a few extras will be available to buy if one wasn't pre-ordered. Order yours now to guarantee you get one!

Let’s Get Graphic!
Free Comic Book Day is the 1st Saturday in May.
We will explore the history of how and why graphic novels developed, focusing on American cartoonist and writer Will Eisner. And yes, Graphic Novels are ‘Real Books”

NMS Holds 12th Annual Career Day
Noble Middle School had our 12th annual Career Day on April 16th. We had 19 presentations offered to students. Students got to learn what it takes to be a firefighter, pet a horse and hear about running a stable, scrub in for teddy bear surgery with a registered nurse, try to spot counterfeit money with regional bank managers and so much more. Thank you to all the presenters who made Career Day a success!
NMS STEM Club Shows Off Their ROVs
NMS STEM Club students participated in the annual SeaPerch competition at UNH on April 11th!
Over the past few months, student teams have built small, submersible ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) with help from Mr. Peet, Mrs. Leon, and Mr. Herrick from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Throughout this process, students learned about applying circuitry, buoyancy principles, waterproofing, and propulsion techniques. During the competition, the teams operated their ROVs in the UNH pool in challenges which included navigating through underwater obstacle courses and performing mock underwater missions of collecting and moving objects. Out of 26 teams, NMS highest placement was 4th!
Congrats to all of the student participants!
