Charger Chronicle

The first few weeks of school have been busy and students are adapting to being back at school after summer vacation. Our students are diving deep into curriculum in every content area. This week we also completed the fall assessment of MAP testing and will be looking at goals they can set for the school year.

Picture Day will be taking place on September 19th. Students will take their pictures during their PE block. This year we will be using Josten's PIx. Parents will be able to view your child's pictures online at jostenspiz.com. The event code is FE126323. We have attached the flyer for parents that will provide more detailed information.

Some families have reached out to ask about spirit wear. There is a link on our school website where parents can purchase school spirit wear. Items are mailed directly to your home.

Parent Orientation will take place on Thursday. September 7th at 6:00 p.m. This event is for parents only, as it allows teachers to quickly walk through the curriculum and procedures. Parents will walk through their child's schedule. Parents will have 7 minutes at each class with a 3 minute passing period. Seventh grade parents will skip 5th period and attend their child's 6th period class, and Eighth grade parents will skip 6th period class since this is their child's lunch period. Prior to attending parents should work with their child to write out their child's class and location for each class. We want to highlight that due to construction parking will be limited.

After the Parent Orientation, all parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the first PTA meeting from 7:30-8:30PM in the Plum Grove Jr. High library. We also hope you consider joining the PTA this year to support the school community. Last year, we raised over $4,000 for the year’s programs, which included two dances, staff appreciation events, 7th and 8th grade breakfasts, and the WOW event. We hope to do even more this year, and we would love your help to accomplish our goals! Your membership fees allow the PTA to enhance your child’s school and bring in fun and educational activities/events.

We have some fun clubs that will be beginning in the month of September. This is an opportunity for students to explore different opportunities and make some great memories.

Math Club- This club will begin meeting on September 11th and will run through March 18th. The will meet on Mondays after school.

Homework Center-Homework Center will meet will meet on Thursdays and will start meeting on September 5th. This club will run through the end of the year. The staff sponsor is Ms. Piper

Announcements/News Crew - This club takes place before school. This club begins at the beginning of the year and runs through the end of the year. The clubs meets daily. The club sponsor is Mrs. Coutts-Siepka.

VEX Robotics - This clubs takes place on Mondays after school. This club starts on September 11th and goes through February 26th. The club sponsor is Mrs. Coutts-Siepka.

Anime Club- This club will begins on September 19th and runs through December 19th. The club will take place after-school on Tuesdays. The club sponsor is Ms. Hill.

Choir-This club will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning at 6:45 a.m. The first meeting will be on September 12th. The sponsor for this club is Ashley Storinger.

Art Club- This club will take place after school on Tuesdays. Mrs. Shapera, our art teacher will be the sponsor. The club will begin on September 26th and run through May 7th.

BUSES DEPART AT 3:45 MONDAY - THURSDAY

It is extremely helpful if students know their street names as the routes are based on their street names.

During the week of September 4th we will be practicing a few of our drills. During the week our students will participate in a Shelter in Place Drill, Evacuation Drill (Fire Drill), and a lock down drill. We are required to do these drills to prepare our students in case there is an emergency.

We want to take a moment to remind parents on procedures and our district practice for a student absence. If your child is going to be absent from school you may call our school's attendance line at 847-963-7601. We understand that students occasionally may be absent from school for valid reasons: for example, illness, death in the immediate family, family emergency, observance of a religious holiday, situations beyond the control of the student, mental or behavioral health reasons, or circumstances that cause parents reasonable concern for the safety or health of the student. Students who are absent for these reasons will be given an opportunity to make up missed school work. Taking students out of school for vacations is discouraged and is considered an unexcused absence. Staff are not required to provide work for such absences.
