Winter Recess - Dress For The Weather
Please help remind your students to be prepared and dress appropriately to be outside! Hats, gloves/mittens, jackets, and pants are all highly recommended. If you need help getting any warm winter gear, please connect with a school counselor. Students will be outside as long as the "real feel" is above zero degrees. As we like to say here in Vermont, there's no such thing as bad weather - only unsuitable clothing.
New School & District Website Coming Monday
CVSD is excited to announce the launch of an updated district-wide website, coming Monday, Dec. 16. The new site features a modern design with easy-to-use navigation and responsive design thatโs accessible on any device. You may need to update any links you have bookmarked on your device, and if you are viewing this email after Monday, December 16, some links may no longer be valid.
If you encounter any issues, please provide feedback using the districtโs Connect With Us resource (find website under District Topics).

EWINS is coming to Vermont!
Everybody Wins Vermont (EWINS) is coming to HCS! Here is some information about this wonderful organization:
One adult. One child. One book at a time. Everybody Wins! Vermont helps elementary-school children succeed at reading and form lasting friendships with caring adult mentors in the safety of supervised Power Lunch reading sessions at school.
Today, our EWINS site coordinator, Janet Gray, hosted a free book give-away! All Prek-4 students got to choose their own brand new book! Stay tuned for more information about reading mentorship. And, if you're interested in becoming a mentor, please visit the EWINS VT website.
Pre-Kindergarten Lottery is now open for 2025-2026!
The CVSD Early Education Program is now accepting applications for a random prekindergarten lottery drawing for the 2025-26 school year. This lottery is for an opportunity to enroll in one of our school-based classrooms which runs 4 partial days per week. Our school-based prekindergarten classrooms are 5 STARs, licensed early education programs that provide play-based, developmentally appropriate environments for all children in an inclusive setting. Our curriculum is based on the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS).
Our programs follow the CVSD school calendar. Children who will be age 3 or older by September 1, 2025, who are not eligible for kindergarten, and live in the communities of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George, and Williston are eligible to enter the lottery. Families who are selected for the lottery and choose to enroll their child in a CVSD program access their Act 166 publicly funded prekindergarten funds for the school-based program.
All applications must be received by February 7, 2025, and are located on the CVSD Early Education website under PreK Enrollment. Paper applications are available upon request.
For additional information, questions about our program, or any concerns about your childโs development, please visit our website or contact Director of Early Education, Erin Gagne at egagne@cvsdvt.org. Our Early Education team is also available for developmental screenings in the areas of communication, social-emotional development, motor skills, adaptive development, and cognition. More information about an Early Multi-Tiered System of Supports is also available on the website.

Our youngest students have been developing movement and locomotor skills through games that keep them running, hopping, and balancingโall while having a blast!
3rd โ 6th Grade: Teamwork and Strategy
Students in these grades are sharpening their teamwork with collaborative games like Yoshi, Pinball, and Handball, blending fun with strategic thinking and cooperation.
7th โ 8th Grade: Small-Sided Competitions
Our middle schoolers are diving into fast-paced small-sided games like Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer, focusing on communication, leadership, and quick decision-making.
Learning Through Play
Every game we play builds essential skills like resilience, teamwork, and leadership. Our PE program helps students grow as athletes and individuals, preparing them for success both on and off the court.
