5th Grade
Our 5th grade Eagles have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming Ameritowne experience! Those interested in leadership roles stepped up to run for mayor or judge, collaborating with their campaign teams to design creative and persuasive posters. Afterward, they delivered speeches, confidently sharing why they would be the best choice for the position. Students then voted and elected their fifth-grade mayor and judge. Meanwhile, all students participated in job interviews, practicing their interviewing skills and highlighting why they would be strong candidates for their desired roles. Their enthusiasm and dedication have been impressive—keep up the great work! We also appreciate the support of parents and community members who conducted the job interviews!

5th Grade Activity
As part of their economics unit, our 5th graders recently explored the free enterprise system in a hands-on way! Each student designed a unique shoe, set a price, and decided whether to sell it through a brick-and-mortar store or an online retailer. They then pitched their designs to classmates, gaining insight into competition, supply, and demand in different markets. To bring their ideas to life, students had the opportunity to stay after school and decorate a pair of shoes—just in time to wear on their upcoming field trip to Young AmeriTowne!
Reading Challenge
It’s almost time for our Spring Break Reading Challenge happening March 14-24! Students can access myOn and Sora on their iPads so it’s an easy way for them to read each day during Spring Break. They can also request a reading log from their teacher and include time they read independently as well as time that the family spends reading books together. In addition to the incentives being offered by teachers to encourage reading over the break, we have the following school wide incentives:
Primary vs Intermediate: the group with the most total minutes read during the break will have a bubble party!
The grade level with the highest percentage of students who read at least 180 minutes (about 20 minutes a day) during the break will have an extra recess!
The 15 readers in the school with the most minutes read will receive a certificate and a book!
Happy Reading!
4th Grade
This week, Boulder Parks and Open Space visited our 4th graders with a giant floor map of Boulder County! Students applied their knowledge from their Colorado Life Zones project to identify and discuss the different life zones in our area. Then, working together, they carefully placed various animals in the appropriate zones based on their needs for water, shelter, space, and food. It was a hands-on, interactive way to connect their learning to the real world!
2nd Grade Eagles
2nd grade Eagles are building strong math skills in a language-rich environment! As they solve problems, they read, write, listen, and speak to explain their thinking, strengthening both their mathematical understanding and communication skills. By discussing their strategies and reasoning, students deepen their learning and gain confidence in expressing their ideas!
4th Grade Eagles
Our 4th-grade Eagles are bringing Colorado history to life—literally! Student researched a significant group from Colorado’s past and created a fictional character to represent that group. They then designed a “life-size” version of their character, imagining what they might look like if they were alive today. This hands-on project deepens their understanding of history while sparking creativity and connection to the past!
Kindergarten
Kindergarteners in Ms Pelenis’ class are using technology to enhance their math learning! With digital 10-frames, they fill in boxes to represent numbers given by the teacher, strengthening their number sense. They’re also taking the next big step—learning to write equations—as they build a strong foundation in early math skills!
4th Grade Field Trip
Our 4th graders recently attended the "From Our Lands to Your Hands" field trip, hosted by the Boulder Valley and Longmont Conservation Districts. Throughout the day, students visited interactive stations led by experts from organizations such as the Butterfly Pavilion, Growing Gardens, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Colorado State Forest Service, CSU Spur Veterinary, Future Farmers of America, and more. They engaged in hands-on activities exploring Colorado’s natural resources, agriculture, and conservation efforts. Students also learned about the importance of protecting our lands and the impact our choices have on the environment. It was a memorable day filled with discovery, curiosity, and a greater appreciation for the land and resources that support our communities!
Mrs. Cloud's 5th Grade Students
Students in Mrs. Cloud’s 5th grade literacy flex class explored metaphors in a creative and meaningful way with the "Bucket of Metaphors" activity! Each student pulled a random item—like glue, a playing card, or a magnet—from a bucket and crafted a metaphor connecting it to their job at Young AmeriTowne. This engaging exercise helped them think critically about their roles while deepening their understanding of figurative language!
In PE
Students are having a blast in PE during a ropes unit! They’re building strength, coordination, and confidence as they climb, swing, and navigate various types of ropes. This exciting unit challenges them to push their limits while having tons of fun!
Way to go, Eagles! 59% of our students have five or fewer absences so far this year! Consistent attendance helps build strong learning habits and keeps our Eagles soaring. Let’s keep up the great work!
