Chatham Elementary School Family Update
Early Summer Update
Dear CES Families and Friends,
I hope you have been enjoying the first week of summer vacation. Believe it or not, we are still hard at work at CES closing out this school year and preparing for the next.
As promised before the break, I wanted to update our community on two new additions to the teaching staff. I am absolutely thrilled to introduce Mrs. Oona Melanson as our new 1st-Grade Teacher and Mr. Ryan Anglim as our new 4th-Grade Teacher. Please see below for more information about each of these amazing educators.
Enjoy these wonderful summer days and make sure to keep reading! All students should still have access to their Reflex Math and Prodigy accounts over the summer months. There will be a variety of prizes for any student who logs in time to practice their math over the summer. Directions on how to access those programs were included in your final report card.
Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Independence Day!
Warm regards,
Dr. Kelly

Mrs. Oona Melanson
Oona Melanson is a passionate educator who has been teaching for about 20 years. She has a Master’s in Elementary Education (1-6) from Lesley University and is currently completing her certification as a Special Education Teacher for Moderate Disabilities K-8.
Although she has been a teacher in every grade 1-6, and has even worked as a special education teacher, first grade has always had a special place in her heart. Mrs. Melanson is
trained in Orton Gillingham, a renowned literacy intervention program, and has considerable experience in reading intervention.
Oona is thrilled to be joining the community at Chatham
Elementary and says it is her “dream job”!! She lives in West Barnstable with her husband and two children; a 17-year-old daughter and soon to be 19-year-old son. When not teaching, Mrs. Melanson enjoys spending time with her
family, gardening, cooking, reading, and being with her beloved dogs, Bella and Eve.
Mr. Ryan Anglim
My name is Ryan Anglim, and it is with great honor and excitement to introduce myself as your child's 4th Grade teacher for the upcoming school year! I am very much looking forward to being a part of the CES community, getting to know you and your child, and helping them achieve success in fourth grade.
Teaching is my life's passion, and I have been instructing students of all ages for over 15 years, including teaching English in Japan for 4 years. I earned my master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Haven. I also taught fifth grade for 4 years and third grade for 2 years. Now, I am excited to fulfill my role as a fourth-grade teacher at CES!
My experience in teaching has led me to understand and believe that all students are capable of achieving their goals and success and possess the ability to do anything to which they set their minds. I strive to foster a growth mindset in students: that even if they struggle, they can face and meet any challenges, and their skills will improve over time. I also believe that students' success begins with a classroom in which they feel connected, safe, and respected, especially regarding individual learning styles, to which end I will strive to create such a space.
Additionally, I hope to maintain consistent and open communication and provide many opportunities for parent involvement throughout the school year. I believe that the more parents are involved in their child's schooling, the more the child should benefit and grow from your participation.
Some of my many hobbies include playing and performing Japanese music, learning about different cultures, kayaking, fishing, hiking, tai chi, and chess.
I am looking forward to meeting you and meeting the needs of your child! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
Kind regards,
Ryan Anglim

Mobile Crisis
What is a Mobile Crisis Intervention?
Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) is the youth-serving component of Bay Cove's Behavioral Health Urgent Care program. MCI provides short-term service that is a therapeutic response to youth and family/caregivers experiencing a behavioral health crisis. MCI evaluates the situation, identifies the challenges, involved, asseses the needs and begins to treat and stabilize the situation, reducing the immediate risk of danger to the youth or to others. MCI then provides up to 7-days of intervention and services post the initial encounter. Learn more about Bay Cove Mobile Crisis HERE.
