Arts Magnet Weekly News
Week 28 for Families and Community March 7-11, 2022
Dear Eliot Arts Magnet Families,
It is indeed a beautiful week to be an Eliot Husky! So many wonderful things going on around campus.
A big thank you to all our parents who are following our drop off and pick up process. We know it takes a bit longer to follow the rules, but your child's safety is the most important priority in our choices. If you don't wish to participate in car line, you are welcome to come up with alternatives that work for your family.
Thank you to all our families who attended our Eliot Day of Service on Saturday! YOU are the reason our school is continuing to grow and thrive. If you have not had the opportunity to volunteer your time and talents yet, please get involved. We need YOU!
If you have not seen our Husky News weekly videos, you must! Ms. Ray, our 7th grade English teacher and her students began producing these weekly videos that quickly became a hit across our Eliot school community. We feature these videos each week in Advisory class. Check one out below!

WEDNESDAY is Better with Ice Cream!
Our Gala Date has Changed to March 24!
Our annual Live and Silent Auction Gala has been moved to Thursday, 3/24/22.
Our special guest, Mr. Dan Povenmire, aka Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, has to fly out of town on 2/25/22 to be with his dad who is having heart surgery. We are lucky that the Altadena Town and Country Club was willing to let us change the date!
The great thing about this change is twofold:
1. The next day is a pupil free day so parents don't have to worry about getting kids up and out for school the next day.
2. It gives our fabulous Annual Fund committee more time to continue gathering great auction items and making the event spectacular for all our attendees.
We hope this change of date does not pose a problem for anyone. Check out the fun video from Heinz himself!
Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz himself, Writer, Animator, Voice Over Actor and Musician, Dan Povenmire will be with us!
We have a live and silent auction planned, live music, and delicious passed appetizers.
To purchase tickets visit https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E10123&id=90
Proof of vaccination will be required to enter the event.
Let's celebrate together while raising funds for our incredible school community! Our goal is to raise $100K!
If you are interested in donating or volunteering, please email our Annual Fund Chair, Ms. Felicia Lee at lee.felicia@pusd.us

COVID Updates from PUSD!
NEW COVID PROTOCOLS
STUDENTS who have a POSITIVE test result must ISOLATE (stay in their home or other residence) for a period of at least 10 days from the date symptoms first appeared or the date of the positive test.
They may return to school if:
10 days have passed from the start of symptoms or the date of the positive test
No fever for at least 24 hours, without the use of medication
Other symptoms have improved
Isolation is required when you test positive regardless of vaccination status. This revised exposure management plan poses a lower risk by preventing students who test positive from returning to school too soon when they could potentially still be contagious. Studies estimate 31 percent of those who test positive remain infectious on Day 5.
STUDENTS who have been EXPOSED and are identified as CLOSE CONTACTS are REQUIRED to QUARANTINE if they are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. A close contact exposure is generally defined as being within 6 feet of an infectious person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period or living within the same household.
Requirements for unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated close contacts:
Must quarantine for at least 5 days
Must test on or after Day 5.
The test must be an FDA-authorized viral COVID-19 test ( PCR or Rapid Antigen). In order to return to school on Day 6, the test must be observed and verified by a medical professional (this can be done at the Primary Clinic). Test results must be negative.
Must monitor for symptoms for 10 days from the date of last exposure.
STUDENT MASKING
Students are now required to wear upgraded masks which at a minimum are well-fitting, non-cloth masks of multiple layers of non-woven material with a nose wire. Cloth masks may be worn over the upgraded mask. (PUSD COVID-19 SAFETY PLAN)
PUSD must provide a medical-grade surgical mask to symptomatic students who are waiting in the designated isolation area prior to leaving campus, if they are wearing a less protective mask.
Again, if your child is a close contact but is fully vaccinated or has recovered from COVID-19 in the last 90 days, they do not need to be quarantined and can remain in school. They are required to monitor for symptoms for 10 days past the date of exposure and test for COVID-19 on or around Day 5 past the date of exposure.
We would also like to remind you that getting vaccinated and boosted when eligible is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect yourself and those you love. It allows you to stay in school and keep doing the work you have to do and the things you love to do.
PUSD VACCINATION CLINICS
The District has several upcoming vaccination clinics (no appointment necessary but registration is helpful):
February 14, 2022, 8am - 3:30pm, Ed Center, 351 S. Hudson Ave., Pasadena (Pfizer Only)
Primary vaccine series (1st and 2nd dose) and boosters
LEARNs is Hiring!
Mask Mandate Policy
We have a strict mask mandate on both our campuses to keep all students, staff and families safe from infection with COVID-19. We understand the masks can be uncomfortable for students to wear all day long, but they are necessary. We will follow the process below for students who do not/can not wear a mask over their nose, mouth and chin:
- First time, Verbal warning to wear their mask
- Second time, Phone call home
- Third time, Recommendation for PUSD Independent Study for 3 days
Student will be placed on our regular independent study program for 3 days. This program keeps the student enrolled at their present school with work delivered on Canvas. After 3 days the student returns to their home school and the process starts all over. Each time we get to step three, we add an additional day of independent study until we reach the maximum which is 15 days. After that, student will be referred to our district's CIS program for the rest of the school year.
If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to principal Scheckel.
COVID TESTING ON Tuesdays
Participants or their parents/guardians can register one of two ways:
- Using their own device
- Email registration links to students (and parent/guardians) and staff so they can register at home before testing.
- Turn registrations links into QR codes to print and post at the collection site. To create a QR code, head to qrcode-monkey.com, enter your URL, click “Generate QR Code”, then “Download PNG”
- With assistance
- For participants or parent/guardians without access to technology or who need additional assistance, set up a device on site on testing days.
