Parents of Seniors: The fall semester seems to go by quickly with all of the deadlines, activities and school breaks. Seniors should now be considering what they are planning to do after graduation in just a few short months. It's okay to not have a definitive plan right now, but they should be thinking about all of the available options- college, military, tech or trade school, or career and job opportunities.
The Canvas Class of 2025 course will help them navigate through some processes and take advantage of opportunities that will come along this year. Please remind them to look through the announcements and modules to see if there is something that will help them.
If they did not make the College Application Kickoff, I highly recommend going through this presentation. Students will list me as the counselor (Kara Harper) and use my school email address kharper@magnoliaisd.org when creating and submitting applications.
Use the College & Career website to find resources, checklists, and scholarship information.
Please check announcements on all canvas courses- don't miss deadlines!! We have many colleges coming to visit after fall break. Take advantage of those opportunities.
Scholarships are now available. Bookmark this spreadsheet and check it weekly as I am updating deadlines and adding new scholarships as I receive them.
Have your student check their school and personal email (the one used to apply for college and scholarships) on a daily basis. Also have them check their junk or spam email account- I've had multiple students get their acceptance letters by email and it defaulted to their spam folder.
Students can always stop by room 1419 and talk with Mrs. Harper if they have questions or email kharper@magnoliaisd.org.
MHS Advanced Academics Night
Our MHS Advanced Academics night will prepare and equip 10th grade students to make decisions for their junior and senior years of high school. The information will be geared towards our sophomore students that are making decisions of enrolling in IB, AP, DC and OnRamps courses.
