Starting this week, you can find weekly information from the PTO and some general information about the start of the school year. We try to send information from the PTO via various mediums to ensure all parents are aware of opportunities and events! Please check out our Sherwood PTO on Instagram @sherwoodhp_pto to stay up to date on the latest Sherwood happenings.
Typical School Hours:
Start of day: 8:36am (students may exit cars and buses at 8:20am)

The building is looking better and better as we approach August 22nd! Please remember the first day of school is an Early Release and students leave at 1:36pm.
If there is anything we can do to assist you over the next few weeks or questions that we can answer, please reach out anytime (ksaunders@nssd112.org and pbertana@nssd112.org.)

News from Nurse Adam
Hello Sherwood Families,
My name is Adam Courtman, and I am excited to join Sherwood this year replacing the retired Jill Parker as School Nurse. I have a wide variety of professional nursing experience, and school and academic experiences that I bring to the position. I know some of you already after serving District 112 as the Nurse Clerk at Edgewood last year. I am looking forward to a fun year working with younger students here at Sherwood, and doing my part to keep the kids healthy and safe.
Now for a little business:
Please review the district website's Health Services section. There is a wealth of information there about things like when to keep a kid home from school, how to handle medications at school, allergy plans and required health forms. https://www.nssd112.org/departments/student-services/health-services
Medication - If you have a student who takes medication at school please send in the required forms and medications. I will be at the school full-time for this school year starting 8/19 to receive medications. Do not send medications in to school with your child.
Health condition - If your student has a health condition that requires an emergency action plan you are welcome to send those to me by email or drop off at the school.
Required health forms - Kindergarten/Transfer/New Students/2nd Grade
- Kindergarteners
Physical/Certificate of Health Examination (with current immunization record) - form signed by medical provider due at start of school - physical exam must have occured within the last year
Vision Exam report - due at start of school
Dental Exam report - due May 15th (get the form now for your next dental appointment)
- Transfer students
-- In-state - Sherwood needs copies of the health forms that were required from your last school/grade level.
-- Out-of-state - Sherwood needs the Certificate of Health Exam, Vision Exam and Dental exam just like Kindergartners.
- 2nd Graders
A dental exam report is required by the state by May 15th, 2025. The exam in the report can have occurred no earlier than 18 months before that date.
All forms are available on the district website, and may be on-hand at medical, vision and dental clinics as well. Some medical offices are even able to generate the form from their medical records system and send them electronically. Forms can be emailed as attachments to me at acourtman@nssd112.org or hard copies sent into the Sherwood Office.
If you uploaded forms during the online registration process, I will review them at the beginning of the year and reach out if I have questions or concerns.
Thank you, and enjoy the last few weeks of Summer,
Adam
Transition to Elm Place
Mr. Saunders values your opinion and we want to hear from you! Our Sherwood community is on track to start at Elm Place on January 6th, 2025 and we need your help to ensure we are effectively communicating with our parent/guardian community.
Help us create a Parent FAQ by submitting questions below. We look forward to a smooth transition this winter and appreciate your partnership and support! Keep an eye out for an updated Parent FAQ in future Panda Prints.

iPad FAQs
All students will be issued an iPad within the first few days of school. The iPad will help to facilitate student learning by providing access to district-approved educational applications and resources. These iPads are equipped with tools and apps that enhance the learning experience, support classroom activities, and enable students to complete assignments and projects efficiently. The device ensures that students have access to the necessary digital tools for their education, both in and out of the classroom.
Beginning this year, your student's iPad will primarily remain at school. Teachers will not be sending students home with their iPads unless a specific assignment or project needs to be worked on at home, which will be on a very limited basis (if at all).
Please take a minute to review the linked iPad FAQ, which will answer some basic questions about your student's iPad and how it will be used.
FUNd Run Registration
The 112 Foundation is hosting their annual FUNd Run 5K and Family Walk on Saturday September 28th. All Sherwood families are invited to join their classmates and friends on the beautiful grounds of Ravinia Festival for this favorite all-district event. All proceeds from the event support a need based scholarship fund for D112 students.
Help us represent Sherwood proudly and start your Saturday morning with some exercise with some of your favorite Sherwood staff members!

Kindergarten Bus Trials
This year, the kindergarten bus trial run will be held on Wednesday, August 14. Your bus driver will pick up your student(s) and a family member to go along for the ride at the assigned stop and times stated in the attached letter. The bus driver will run the entire route to the school’s loading/unloading zone and park for 10 minutes. Please do not exit the bus once you arrive at the school! When the bus is parked, please take this time to ask any questions regarding bus rules. The bus then will proceed to return everybody home to their bus stops.
You should also receive a letter in the mail regarding this optional opportunity sometime next week!
Bus & Van Transportation Route Information
For families eligible to receive bus or van service, letters containing bus information were sent this week. If you did not receive this letter please reach out to Mr. Saunders (ksaunders@nssd112.org) at your earliest convenience.
Back to School Bash & School Supply Drop Off
Come say hello to your student's teacher and the amazing Sherwood staff on Wednesday, August 21st from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Additionally, families who purchased their own school supplies will be able to drop them off during our Back to School Bash.
If you purchased school supplies through School Toolbox this spring, they will be delivered directly to your student's classroom before the first day of school.
