Grade 7 Lesson: What effects do people have on the environment?
The lesson involves students choosing a chemical-based household product (food, cosmetic, cleaner, etc.). Students will research the impact the chemicals have on our community (while also keeping in mind the essential question). The essential question for the quarter - What effects do people have on the environment?
Students will create an infomercial based on their research for their household product.

Lunar New Year: February 1, Year of the Tiger
I’m looking forward to teaching my students about Chinese New Year and other Lunar New Year celebrations throughout the world. I’m reminding myself not to use the two terms interchangeably because they’re not precisely the same thing.

Library Lovers Day: February 14
Library Lover's Day on February 14, dedicated to book lovers across the globe. The day honors libraries and the amazing life-changing books they hold within them.

Show students how to download Libby on their mobile device. Teach them to customize their Libby and how to download books.
Remind staff/students of the ebook resources we have. Share via email, announcements, FB, flyers home. Have students do a silent read on ebook in the library lesson.

Read Across America Day: March 2
- Read Across the 50 States – books that take place in each state
- Book List by theme- themes include African American booklists, American Indian/Alaska Native/First Nations Titles, Asian American and Pacific Islander Recommended Titles, Trailblazing Women, Spanish/English bilingual books, LGBTQ booklists, etc.
- Monthly calendar with themes- can be used year-round! Three levels of books for each month – elementary, middle, and high.
- Last year, we encouraged Read Across America "month" in order to promote flexibility in celebrating. Here are the ideas from last year.
- Pair older readers with younger readers to share a book together.
- Host a virtual author visit.
- Invite special guest readers from the local community.
