Music
Hello again from Music! Lots of exciting things going on during this busy holiday season.
In Pre-K we are still discovering social emotional lessons like being polite, being kind, and sharing. These lessons happen all while learning basic music concepts such as high and low pitches. This week we're introducing Mrs. Sol and Mr. Mi and it is such a fun way to learn about notes on the staff without even realizing it! You can check out the first activity here:

In Kindergarten and 1st grade we are gearing up for our first informance!!! Our Christmas themed informance will be held on Thursday, December 12th at 6PM at Tennessee High School Frank Winston Auditorium. We will be singing some classics, some Quaver originals, and some upbeat classics with a twist! Coming soon: check your child's Canvas page for a list of songs and more information about this really spectacular event.
In 2nd and 3rd grade we completed our unit on Meter. We had so much fun singing, conducting, playing instruments, and dancing to the meters of 2, 3, and 4. Our upcoming units in these grades include ostinatos and improvisation. I'm so excited to see what your students do there! Here's one of our favorite songs so far this year to sing and do the actions to:

In 4th and 5th grade we're still reeling from what was a really great Veterans Day Informance! I am so proud of every single student and thought this one was really meaningful. Thank you to everyone that helped to make this one special! If you would like to watch it again you may find the link below. Now 4th and 5th grade students are jumping into keeping a steady beat, reading and creating rhythmic patterns, and hearing triplets. They also have a neat artwork connection assignment coming up where they make an art piece and find a song that best represents themselves. I can't wait to see what they come up with! Here is the link to the informance:

All previous and current lessons are posted on your student's Canvas page. You can also access Canvas or Quaver from their Classlink page. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
I was thinking about next year's Virginia Duff Arts festival (which is 2/27/25-more info to come later), but it reminded me of a couple years ago when the music teachers sang and played to a song called Don't Need Riches/Thankful for You. With Thanksgiving approaching, I thought now would be a good time to share it with all of you.

Art
Greetings from the art room!
Here’s a quick rundown of what each grade level has going on right now:
Pre K has begun to transition to lessons focused on a goal or theme on Mondays and is continuing to do choice based stations on Thursday afternoons.
Kindergarten students recently did a couple of projects using books as starting points; “I’m Not Just a Scribble” by Diane Alber and “Leaf Man”by Lois Elhert.
First grade is working on a series of projects based on the Elements of Art: line, color, shape, texture, value, space, and form. We have completed Line Lions, Color Collages, and some classes have started on Geometric and Organic shapes.
Second grade finished up pumpkin art inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama, and is moving on to Greek Vase designs.
Third grade has finished “Glowing Pumpkins” emphasizing secondary color mixing to build some techniques and skills (students could choose their own subject matter if they preferred something other than pumpkins), and will soon begin a series of projects on maps and vikings.
Fourth grade is wrapping up a unit on medieval themed artwork. They have done illuminated letters, dragon eye drawings and sculptures, and castle drawings. The final medieval project is designing a coat of arms (personal/family crest) using symbolic imagery and colors chosen by each student.
Fifth graders have been hard at work creating Haynesfield themed art to enter into the contest for the front and back of this year’s yearbook. Next fifth grade will start a unit on portraiture and media exploration. Fifth graders and families, please take a look at the reference photo request posted in Canvas, requested by Nov. 22nd.
For more information about the projects we’re doing in art, be sure to check under “Modules” in Canvas.
Getting to know all the wonderful students at Haynesfield and seeing personalities shine through art-making brings joy to my days!
