Where's the Superintendent going to be next?
GHS Green Wave Football Game on Friday, October 11, 2024
Please join me on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 7:00 pm as we cheer on the Green Wave football team against Mahar Regional! I will be in the end zone at 6:30 pm and can't wait to see the GHS Band's halftime show, too. There will be a special community guest appearance at halftime as the Greenfield Moose Lodge 997 presents the school district with a generous donation. See you there!
October is SelfAwareness Month
Greenfield Public Schools' October focus on social and emotional learning is Self-Awareness. We use the CASEL competencies as a foundation for these lessons. Students will be learning how to recognize their own emotional strength and limitations with a grounded sense of confidence and purpose. Four key components of self-awareness are:
- Mindfulness
- Self-Compassion
- Reflection
- Feedback
Mindfulness allows students to become more aware of themselves in the present, while compassion allows students to do so without passing judgment on themselves or others. Reflecting on one's practice of these skills allows for conversations and opportunities for feedback. With continued focus on improving these skills, we hope to assist students in becoming more self-aware in any situation. Help us this month by engaging with your students on self-awareness and the importance of these skills.
Student News Spotlight
Students Participate in Source to Sea Cleanup
We are so proud of our students who participated in the Source to Sea Cleanup locally! This community event, organized by the Connecticut River Conservancy, takes place along the Connecticut River watershed in NH, VT, MA, & CT, and has thousands of volunteers who come together and spend a few hours making the water cleaner, the river banks safer, and the wildlife happier. GHS students in grades 8-12 led by Ms. Bennett, Ms. Mass, and Ms. Gifford volunteered their time on Saturday, Sept. 28 to clean the area located by the bike path and Green River Swimming area. Thank you to all who participated for your hard work and efforts in making our community a better place.

Reminder - Acceptable Use Policy
Acceptable Use Policy - Parent/Guardian Consent Needed
Thank you to those families that have continued to send in fully executed Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") forms. The district is required to have this document signed by a parent/guardian. If you have not done so, please make this a priority as student access to technology is halted until this form is returned to your child's school. If you need another form, please connect with your child's Building Principal. Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
Notes from the District Nurse Leader
School Dental Program
We had a huge response for dental program participation from parents/guardians this year. Nurse Leader, Melissa Bednarski, is thrilled to announce that over 250 GPS students have signed up to receive dental care from the CHCFC School Dental Program. As dental health issues are one of the main reasons for student absences, we are so proud to be able to support this program and provide students with access to dental care.

Feedback and Input on the School Committee's Budget Process
The Budget and Finance Sub-Committee chaired by the School Committee Vice Chair Kate Martini is looking for parents and families to have a greater voice in the budget development process of the schools. Please see the newly adopted FY26 Budget Development Calendar linked below for important timelines and meetings for opportunities to provide feedback and input to the sub-committee or full committee.
