St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 14.6.24
This week...
We have enjoyed another busy week in school, and are especially proud of our team's performance and conduct during the Small Schools' Swimming Festival this week. We came in 2nd place overall!
It has been brought to my attention by several families that you were disappointed that we had exchanged the picnic for cake on the field on the last day of school.
Mr Craigen and I had already decided upon days and times for leavers' events a while ago, before anybody informed me about the picnic tradition! I'm more than happy to listen to you, and, after speaking to staff, we have made some adjustments to the final day, so we can accommodate the much-loved St Joseph's picnic! Hopefully, this will be good news for you.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
End of Year arrangements - Version 2!
As mentioned above, we have made adjustments to the end of year arrangements. Please see the upcoming dates below for the updated times!
Bee-Keeping Visit!
A big thank you to Mary-Janev (one of our foundation governors) who came into St Francis last Friday to talk about bees with the children. She showed the children: a hive that was no longer in use, lots of pictures and shared her knowledge with us. We then finished the afternoon by making honey sandwiches.
Swimming Festival
Not only were they supportive of each other, they even supported other schools. They also came in 2nd place overall!
A big well done to all of them!

Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 90%
Our attendance this week is significantly below National Average.
90% is the equivalent of your child missing an entire day of school every fortnight. I'm sure you can imagine how negatively this will impact their learning and social wellbeing.
We do still have a number of families taking term-time holidays. We hope that next year, you would consider booking family breaks in one of the many school holidays, so that our children can get the best possible education!
Thank you for your help in supporting our children to be in school,
where we are able to help them to achieve their best!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
To link with The Three Little Pigs, we have been making the houses. The children chose which house they would like to make, and we used real straw, stamping with a Duplo brick and straws to represent the sticks.
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
As part of our learning on animals, we found out what animals need in their habitats to survive. We made homes for our bears that provided water, food, shelter and a nice place to sleep.
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
In Science this week, we thought about Charles Macintosh and how he worked out what material was most waterproof and worked best in the rain. We conducted an experiment in groups of trying out different materials to see which kept Cow the most dry!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
This week in history we have been learning about how the Battle of Towton was one of most fiercest fought during the War of the Roses.
We watched video clips about the battle and compared the suitability for the throne of the kings who were fighting: Henry VI and Edward IV.
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
In St Therese Class this week, we have been learning about the circulatory system. We made models of the heart, lungs, veins and arteries using plastic tubs, tubing and plastic bags. We then labelled our models and watched the 'blood' flowing through it.

Friends of St Joseph's
We are looking forward to Sports Day next Friday! Friends of St Joseph's will be there selling refreshments to the spectating parents and families. In previous years it has been a scorcher of a day, so we hope some cold drinks will be welcomed! The local Ice Cream Van will also be coming to treat the children after their efforts. This has been very generously funded by Manning Stanton Estate Agents. Thank You Manning Stainton!
