How to Manage Allergic Nasal Symptoms
Avoidance of the allergen that triggers the symptoms
If your child is allergic to a pet in the home, to make the most impact, it may be necessary to find them a new home
Allergy testing can be performed to determine if and what your child is allergic to in the environment
Pests: sealing holes and cracks that serve as entry
Dust Mites: Wash linens weekly, wash bedding and blankets every 1-2 weeks in hot water,
Outdoor allergens: Air conditioning, showering/bathing at the end of the day, remain indoors when grass is being mowed, avoid playing in fields with tall grass
Medications to Control Symptoms
Treatments should start with your pediatrician, who may refer you to a pediatric allergy specialist for additional evaluations and treatments.
Antihistamines: Taken by mouth
Nasal Corticosteroids: Highly effective and used to control chronic symptoms
Allergy Immunotherapy: Allergy shots (sublingual therapy is also being used)
