1. Celebrating the Center’s 65th Year of Funding!
Congratulations to the Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health for reaching its 65th year of funding! The Center is one of thirteen Centers of Excellence in MCH in Education, Science and Practice, and one of the longest funded.
2. First Maternal and Child Health Interest Group Meeting and Announcing New Executive Board!

3. Student Spotlight: How did Sam Stern Address Physical and Mental Health Care in Workplace Settings?
Sam's deployment with the Minnesota Health Action Group allowed him to work on the Mental Health Guiding Coalition, which focuses on addressing gaps in mental health in the workplace.
4. National MCH Blog: New Post and Editor!
Alexis is an online MCH student who has joined the Center team as editor of the MCH Trainee Blog! As an editor, Alexis will help guest authors showcase their research and practice skills.
This month's blog post features Vanessa Rivero, a Graduate student at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Vanessa writes about her experience with self-reflection and the importance of self-awareness in the MCH field.

5. MCH Qualitative Mini-Lab Presents: The Learning Lab

De Brito to learn more about qualitative research techniques and methods in this first event. This session is the first of three sessions scheduled this fall.
MCH Competency Corner
6. Competency #2: Self-Reflection
Every month we’ll send you information on MCH Navigator training organized around the 12 MCH Leadership Competencies. Each competency sits within one of three larger foci areas: self, others, and the community. This month we will focus on Competency #2: Self-Reflection.
Self-reflection is the process of assessing the impact of personal values, beliefs, communication styles, cultural influences, and experiences on one’s personal and professional leadership style.

7. Family Planning and Reproductive Strategic Communications and Outreach Intern
The Family Planning and Reproductive Health Strategic Communications Intern will support the Bureau for Global Health’s (GH) Office of Population and Reproductive Health. They will have the opportunity to work alongside USAID’s leading technical experts as well as engage with external partners and stakeholders to promote the Agency’s family planning and reproductive health programming and partnerships.

The Steve Fund Crisis Response Task Force has released commentary and recommendations for higher education institutions and employers on promoting the health and well-being of their students of color.
Observances
20. Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month is dedicated towards bringing advocates together from across the nation to bring awareness to and end domestic violence. The UMN Aurora Center has resources for those looking for help, support and education regarding domestic violence.
21. Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness of this disease in both women and men.
The aims of the Center include providing continuing professional education in maternal and child health (MCH) and support for students in online and in-person MCH graduate programs at the University of Minnesota. Center and MCH Program faculty are involved in research and training in infant and child health, adolescent health, family health, health disparities, reproductive health, and women's health.
