Learning and Growing Together
The majority of our staff gathered together on Friday for an excellent professional development provided by Project GLAD. I wanted to share this with you all because our teachers didn't have to attend...but so many of them did! We learned and practiced literacy strategies to engage students on a foundational level, because when we grow strong communicators we open more doors for our kids. We can see this philosophy directly reflected in our AP program statistics. I am proud that we have created opportunities for any student to step into our most rigorous courses, and student performance in these classes continues to soar. Almost one in four students last year chose this challenge for themselves. And, we are on the AP Honor Roll again this year, because 75.5% of our students who took an AP test scored a 3 or higher!
Getting better, every day. - Jake

Honoring our Veterans
The Cadets of the Sentinel Battalion would like to honor the military heritage of our student body. To help with that, we're asking families to fill out the form (linked below) and to submit a photo of students' forebears for us to use in events around Veterans Day.
Veterans Day FormGreat Washington ShakeOut Drill
Our school will be participating in the Great Washington ShakeOut on October 17th at 10:17 AM, an important statewide earthquake drill. The purpose of this drill is to help students, staff, and families practice how to stay safe during an earthquake. Washington is earthquake-prone, so it's critical to be prepared and know what to do. During the drill, everyone will practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" — the recommended action during an earthquake. Families are encouraged to use this time to talk with their children about earthquake safety at home. Consider reviewing your home emergency plan, identifying safe spots in each room, and checking emergency supplies like water, food, and medications. For coastal areas, tsunami warning sirens will sound as part of this drill. Please remember, this is only a test. The sirens will use the actual wailing sound, not the typical chimes. Preparedness starts with practice! Learn more here.

A Message from Mr. Johnson
Hi Seniors,
I know many of you are in the thick of college applications, or at least thinking about applying. If you haven't already, it's a great time to start looking at colleges that may be right for you. CommonApp is an amazing resource where you can apply to multiple colleges at once. If you need help with college applications, reviewing essays, resumes, or just any questions about post high school life, Dr. Chase and I will be doing "Beyond HS Assistance" during the next Wednesday WIN time.
P.S. During this year, you will feel many emotions ranging from high stress to extreme joy. Don't forget to stop, take a breath, and enjoy the moment. You are all capable of doing great things!
