PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Today we celebrated December’s recognitions and homeroom challenge in our monthly assembly. The students watched a short video from one of the senior centers thanking our kids for the wonderful holiday wishes. The kids really did a nice job. They were creative and thoughtful with their work on these heartfelt messages. Once again, congratulations to all of the students who were recognized this month for the FMS Academic, Triple Pillar Award, or Artist of the Month. Additionally, shout out to Ms. Metrano’s, Ms. Gagnon’s and Ms. Gerrish’s homerooms for winning the December attendance challenge.
We had a special “graduation” for our 4th Grade students to wrap up our assembly today. The fourth grade spent 10 weeks completing the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) program and were acknowledged for their hard work and learning by Bath PD. It was a great experience to have Deputy Chief Small & Officer Tringali teaching this program. We are very thankful for their work!
As a reminder, at FMS we try to get out at least once everyday. When the temperature hits 10 degrees Nurse Ricki and I meet and discuss all of the factors that contribute to a safe experience outside and make any modifications we need to our general recess plan. This may include reducing the time outside, requiring students to have zipped up jackets, hats and gloves, allowing individual classes to go outside briefly but keeping them in for the lunchtime recess.
Finally, please, please, please, take the time to review the attached documents from Nurse Ricki about illnesses and staying healthy!
FROM NURSE RICKI
Illness continues to circulate- Strep throat, Covid 19 and other viral illnesses
Strep throat- still seeing several cases circulating. Another resource for having your child tested when they have a sore throat is the School Based Health Center at Morse- you can call them, sign them up and access the services.
Covid 19- you can still obtain free tests click here
Norovirus is on the rise across the USA- It is a stomach virus- causing vomiting and diarrhea. You can find norovirus in your vomit or feces (poop) even before you start feeling sick.
The virus can also stay in your poop for 2 weeks or more after you feel better. You can still spread norovirus during that time.
Key Points:
- It is highly contagious.
- Washing with soap and water is the number one way to prevent it. Hand sanitizer DOES NOT work with Norovirus.
- So not prepare or handle food or care for others when you are sick.
