Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School Community,
Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
As we mentioned last week, we are entering a busy period, and it commences with our first test session tomorrow. This session includes the ELA portion of the Smarter Balance Assessment (SBA). Our students and staff have worked hard throughout the year to prepare for these assessments, and we are eager to see everyone giving their best.
The following is just a reminder of how parents can assist their students with performing their best on the state assessment:
· Students must charge Chromebooks at night so they have a fully charged device during the testing
· Students need wired earbuds (not wireless). We do have wired earbuds available if students do not have their own
· Testing starts as the day begins, so please have students to school on time
· Encourage students to get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast
· Remind students that they are prepared for this test. We have prepped them with material and review, and they only need to concentrate on their performance on test day
As a reminder, we do use the SBA scores as one data point for math placement for next year.
As always, we appreciate your help in encouraging students to take this seriously and truly show us what they know.
It was a busy day last Friday with three separate field trips. We are excited to offer these opportunities to our students.
Our music students had a wonderful opportunity last Friday. They attended the Interdistrict Interactive Student Music Workshop at the Nonnewaug High School auditorium, where they learned from world-renowned cellists Ani Aznavoorian and Andrew Armstrong. We thank the Woodbury Music Foundation for making this enriching experience possible.
Seventh-grade students visited Flanders Nature Center for the second part 2 of their field trips, collaborating on the lessons associated with “Cycling of Matter in a Pond Ecosystem." Students explored a pond ecosystem, collecting and identifying plant and animal life.
Lastly, a group of art students attended a workshop at the University of Hartford Art School. The art department at Woodbury Middle School and Nonnewaug High School organized this trip. Approximately 90 students attended this great art experience.
This is just a reminder that these field trips are a privilege. We will send out the eligibility criteria for the upcoming field trips and end-of-year activities in the next few days.
