The Nixon Groove
What a Great Day to be a Nixon Cougar!
A Message from Principal Frazier...
~Nelson Mandela~
Hello Nixon Parents and Guardians,
Spring is around the corner! We can definitely see a difference in our scholars this time of the year. Spring will remain a time of intense instruction at Nixon. Consequently, it is also the time when scholars want to be outside and having fun. Please encourage your child to continue working to his or her fullest potential, even when the work is at its most challenging. We are excited for our scholars to "show what they know," as the school year begins to wind down.
Spring is the time when scholars have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of grade level skills. We will begin assessments April 8, 2024 for grades 2-3 and April 15, 2024 for grades 4 and 5. There will be more information coming out about ACAP assessments in the coming weeks. We would prefer for families to avoid scheduling daytime appointments, family vacation days, and other things that could impact scholar attendance during April 8th - April 15th.
As we march into the last couple of months of the school year, I want to thank Nixon Elementary parents for being involved in your child/children's education this year to the best of your ability. One of my goals as a leader is to always encourage parental involvement, open the lines of communication to parents, and ensure you as a parent feels welcomed within our school community.
As we move into the spring months, you will continue hearing from your child/children's teacher to invite you to participate in 3rd grade parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to continue participating in the parent-teacher conferences to show your child/children that you are a partner with Nixon and together, great things are possible as we continue springing ahead.
Together, we can make a difference!

March Character Trait!!!!
This month, we have been busy learning about honesty. What it means and how we can be honest scholars and citizens. Please help us reinforce this with your child by talking to him or her about honesty at home.
What is honesty? When you are honest, you speak the truth. More broadly, you present yourself in a genuine and sincere way, without pretense, and take responsibility for your feelings and actions. Moreover, honesty is always telling the truth. It is about being trustworthy and loyal. There are many ways to demonstrate honesty.
Ideas about honesty:
1. Speak and act truthfully with others and yourself.
2. Telling only part of what happened or making something up to hide the truth is dishonest.
3. Tell what really happened even if you might get in trouble.
4. Do what is right, regardless of who is around.
5. Ask before you take.
6. Honesty is the basis for a trusting relationship.
7. Keep your word.
Books about Honesty:
- Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back: A Tale About Telling the Truth
- The Berenstain Bears an The Truth by Stan and Han Berenstain
Talk about honesty:
- What opportunities did you have to be honest today?
- Are you being truthful?
- What are consequences of being dishonest?
- Reward honesty!
