DMIS Morgan Messenger
Week of Monday, December 9th - Friday, December 13th
Dear DMIS Families,
As the weather gets chillier, we’re still in full swing with learning here at DMIS! Please encourage your student to bundle up, stay focused, and make the most of these last instructional days before winter break.
Upcoming Performances
We’re thrilled to highlight the talents of our student musicians in the coming weeks:
- Chorus Caroling Tour: From Monday through Thursday this week, select chorus students will be performing at elementary schools during lunchtime.
- Band Winter Performance: Wednesday, December 11, at 6:00 PM.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the hard work and dedication our students have put into their music this semester.
Attendance Reminders
Regular and punctual attendance is essential for your child’s success. Our attendance protocol, as guided by School Board Policy JED, helps ensure students stay engaged and achieve their academic potential. Please remember:
- Excused absences: Illness, injury, medical procedures, funerals, legal obligations, suspensions, and other approved reasons.
- Unexcused absences: When no valid reason is provided or if the reason doesn’t align with policy guidelines.
Attendance protocol:
- Any absence: We will call home.
- After 3 days missed (excused or unexcused): A Talking Points message will be sent home.
- After 5 days missed (unexcused) or 10 days missed (excused): Families will receive a letter, and we may request a meeting to create an attendance plan.
- After 10 days missed (excused or unexcused): Families may receive a letter requiring doctor notes for any future absences.
By working together, we can ensure your child receives the consistent, high-quality instruction they need to thrive.
Weapons Detectors Starting in January
Beginning in January, the Daniel Morgan Campus will implement weapons detectors to further enhance school safety. Four additional detectors will be placed at the car loop and bus loop entrances. Starting January 6 (DMMS) and January 13 (DMIS), students will remove their Chromebooks from their backpacks before passing through the detectors.
Common items that may set off detectors (not a complete list):
- Adult-size scissors
- Aerosol cans
- Cameras
- Chromebooks and other laptops (remove before entering)
- Eyeglass cases
- iPads and tablets
- Metal utensils (e.g., forks)
- Three-ring binders larger than 1.5 inches
- Umbrellas
- Water bottles with metal components
- Wheeled, rolling backpacks
Note: Keys and cell phones do not set off the alarms. We will review these procedures with students before winter break so they are prepared when they return in January.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Sam Gates
Principal
