APPLE CORE Class Contest
Research shows that reading nightly positively influences academic success, improves writing skills, stimulates imagination, fosters creativity, and develops empathy. Reading nightly is required homework for all Cozine students. Recording the minutes read on an APPLE CORE bookmark holds students accountable for their nightly reading. As an incentive, there will be a spring APPLE CORE Class Contest. The class with the most bookmarks turned in per grade level by Monday, March 31, 2025 will receive Kona Ice and an extra recess on Friday, April 11th. Only students who turned in bookmarks in the winning classes will be allowed to participate.
College and Career Week Speakers
Are you passionate about your career? Sign up to be a guest speaker during Cozine's annual College and Career Week from May 12-16th. Guest speakers will have thirty minutes inside a classroom to teach the students about their career and answer any questions. Cozine Wellness Team
Daily attendance is more than just a requirement; it is a core component of academic success and personal growth. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the school year, we must emphasize the importance of regular attendance. Regular attendance lays the groundwork for a child's success in school and beyond.
Daily school attendance in elementary school is crucial for several reasons:
Academic Progress: Missing school regularly can cause children to fall behind in their lessons. Elementary school is where kids build foundational skills in subjects like math, reading, and science. Missing even a few days can make it hard to keep up with the material, leading to gaps in knowledge.
Building Social Skills: School isn’t just about academics. It's also where kids learn important social skills like communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Regular attendance helps kids interact with their peers and develop these essential life skills.
Establishing Good Habits: Attending school regularly helps kids develop a sense of responsibility and discipline. These habits can carry over into later years, both in school and in other aspects of life, such as work or extracurricular activities.
Teacher-Student Relationships: Regular attendance allows teachers to build stronger connections with their students. Teachers are better able to understand a student’s strengths and areas where they might need extra help when they see them consistently in class.
Routine and Stability: For younger children, school provides a routine that helps them feel secure. Consistency in attendance offers structure, and that predictability can be comforting for children during a crucial time in their emotional and cognitive development.
Future Success: Early patterns of school attendance can influence a child’s mindset about school in the future. Children who learn the importance of regular attendance are more likely to take school seriously as they grow older.
Please review the link for additional information regarding attendance. You may contact the Wellness Team at Cozine ES if you or your family can benefit from assistance with additional resources. We are here to support you and ensure that every student has access to the resources needed to stay most successful.

REMINDERS
REMINDER: Visit the School Library with Your Preschool Student!
Research shows that visiting the library and reading books at home helps preschool students develop vocabulary and early literacy skills. It also fosters a love of reading! Beginning Thursday, January 23rd, the library will be open for parents to bring their Cozine preschool students to check out books. The times will be: 11:45 AM - 12:15 PM and 3:15 PM - 3:45 PM every Thursday.
REMINDER: Cozine Spirit Shirts
We are excited to announce the launch of our online store! This is your place to buy Cozine and House spirit gear! Please click THIS LINK and browse our merchandise. These items are created by a printing company and your orders will be made just for you and delivered to the school to send home with your student.
REMINDER: Marquee Birthday Shoutout
If you would like to have your child's school picture and FIRST NAME ONLY displayed for their BIRTHDAY WEEK (7 days), click THIS LINK to fill out this form, and send $10 CASH to your child's teacher. This money will go toward student incentives we do throughout the year.
No matter when your child's birthday is, you can order now and it will be displayed the entire week of their big day!
REMINDER: Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Cozine, students are required to keep their personal communication devices off and in their backpacks during instructional hours. Students are permitted to use their phones before and after school. This aligns with District policy that helps prevent bullying, cyber bullying, unfiltered internet access, and cheating. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to the office or school administration. At this time, we will not be using the signal blocking cell phone pouches at Cozine ES.
REMINDER: Parking at Cozine
Cozine has a small parking lot, and our lot is closed off to general traffic to keep our students safe as they walk to school. CCSD employees, school buses, and anyone holding a valid Handicapped Pass are permitted into our parking lot. Please see Cozine duty personnel if you fall into this category and need to enter the lot.
Also, to keep traffic patterns predictable for students that do walk, we allow traffic to enter our parking lot at the north entrance and exit through the south exit. Our staff enforces this to keep everyone safe, and we appreciate you helping them with this by following this pattern.
