CVU Celebrations
April 18, 2025
Guest Author--Director of Special Services Jessica Hoskins
Dear CVU Community,
At CVU, we care deeply about making sure that all students feel a sense of belonging in our community. When we presume competence in the people around us - when we believe that they can perform to high standards regardless of how they communicate or interact with the world differently - we can create truly inclusive communities that are a joy to be a part of. Bringing our students, staff and faculty together on Tuesday this week to cheer on our Unified Basketball team was a highlight of the year for me, and a reminder of how valuable and important the work we do to move towards authentic inclusion is.
We celebrated an early graduation this afternoon. Andrea Auxiliadora Chavarria Amador and Melody Nahomy Chavarria Amador received their diplomas in a lovely ceremony. The graduation speaker, teacher Lacey Richards, described the graduates in this way: "These two young women, these, sisters, these scholars, these intellectuals, these creatives, these motivated, detail oriented, funny, passionate, empathetic, hard-working, brave young women before you, have accomplished an important milestone in their lives, and we are all lucky to be here together to bear witness to their brilliance and perserverance."

STUDENT COUNCIL
Hello CVU! This is Mira. In Student Council, we broke into our usual groups for teacher appreciation week, representative and student body president elections, committee interviews and appointments, senior sunset, and spring rally. After the break, we look forward to interviewing committee applicants. I have personally immensely enjoyed my time on Program Council. Working in partnership with teachers to brainstorm, plan, and implement decisions that surface in school makes me feel like my voice matters to this community. I am so excited for the next batch of students to experience this feeling. The most meaningful experience in the program council this year was helping hire a teacher for a new position and being able to see how that process worked, as well as getting to share some of my thoughts. That’s it for this week. Have a great break, Hawks!

Spring Break 2026 Travel to North Carolina and Washington, D.C.
If you will be age 16 or older on April 21, 2026, you are eligible to participate in the Spring 2026 Habitat for Humanity trip to Winston-Salem, North Carolina! Applications are available in the Main Office - see Carol Fox - or scan the QR code in the photo below.
CVU has sponsored successful Habitat for Humanity trips for more than sixteen years and we are excited to offer this trip once again to interested students, age sixteen and older. We will be traveling to Winston-Salem, North Carolina over April vacation to participate in their Collegiate Challenge program. We will be leaving on Saturday, April 18 and returning on Sunday April 26. On both legs of our trip we will be spending time in Washington, DC. Since we are limited as to the number of students we can bring (20), and interest in the past has been high, we ask that you complete an application and submit it as soon as possible. Selections are based on a “first come, first served” basis for all eligible students.
Ceci Scriver and Arthur Chiaravalli, two community members with ties to Ohio State and Michigan respectively, faced each other down in the school lobby this morning, but ultimately set their rivalry aside as fellow Redhawks.
