MESSAGE FROM THE CCS ADMINISTRATION
Good Afternoon CCS Caregivers and Charlotte Residents,
Vermont has shown us all of its beauty this week. From the morning frost and fall colors to the Super Moon that brightened our night, how fortunate we are to be in Vermont. For the most part, everyone was coming to school prepared for all sorts of temperatures with layers to stay warm and take off as the day warmed up. Double check that what is sent into school is labeled somewhere with your child’s name.
This afternoon, we completed a school wide fire drill. This was efficiently executed and appropriately timed on the warmest day of the week. Visitors from our Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue will be visiting the K-4 classrooms on October 28th to teach some important fire safety lessons. We appreciate this annual tradition and are extremely grateful to the volunteers who give us their time.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Jen and Tim
ONLINE SAFETY AND DIGITAL CITIZENSHIPS
The annual Digital Citizenship Week took place across CCS at different times of the week. Online safety must be a priority for all of us. As caregivers, we ask that you monitor your child’s online footprint. Where do they spend their time when online? Are they talking with others and what information do they share about themselves online? Throughout the year, we will teach developmentally appropriate lessons to students that are highlighted on Common Sense Media.

STUDENT COUNCIL UPDATE
Last week was a busy week for the student council. Even though it was a shortened week, the Omega Student Council elected our ambassadors after they presented their speeches to the student council body. Our new ambassadors are Beckett Win, Ada Glasscoe, Hayward Herlihey, and Riak Chol. We have a plastic update, thanks to Special Educator, Lizzy Kruger's contributions, we collected 35 lbs of plastic. Also in Omega soccer, all four soccer teams (Boys and Girls) beat Hinesburg. We'll check in next week.
Respectfully,
Beckett Win
STEM CLASSROOM MINI-GRANT - SCREENFREE CODING FOR CCS' YOUNGEST LEARNERS
This fall the STEM classroom received a grant of $2000 from a larger Rowland Foundation allocation focused on building more robust and equitable Computer Science programs in CVSD. STEM teacher Steve Flint purchased several Blue Bots for CCS' youngest learners, which challenge them to create sequential directions, program them into a 'computer,' and then witness the results of their directions in real time. From there, students can revise their 'code' to better accomplish the task. This type of coding and programming happens collaboratively and without screens.
