Prayer for Growth
Loving God,
As we approach this time of reviewing our school reports, we ask for your wisdom and grace. Help us to see our progress with gratitude and to identify areas where we can continue to grow. Give us the courage to face challenges and the perseverance to strive for excellence. May your light guide us on our learning journey.
Amen.

Catholic Identity Pillar
Dear Parents and Carers,
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to our Year 4 students who recently received their First Holy Communion. This sacred milestone was beautifully supported by Father John, parents, Mr Patat, Miss Waghorn and the parish catechist; thank you for your thoughtful preparation and guidance. The Masses were reverent and joyful, highlighted by Father John’s poignant homily. He reflected on the meaning of Eucharistia, the Greek word for thanksgiving, reminding us that the Eucharist is a celebration of Jesus Christ’s Last Supper and his ultimate sacrifice. It is a time to give thanks to God for the gift of Jesus. As we conclude the term, let us take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the many blessings we have received.
Priest and Principal Workshop
Father John and I were privileged to attend a small group workshop hosted by the CEWA Executive team. The session offered a valuable opportunity to share insights into strengthening the connection between our parish and school. We were joined by Archbishop Timothy Costelloe, who shared his vision for fostering positive relationships between schools and churches across the archdiocese. The discussion was rich with reflections on successes, challenges, and future opportunities.
Parish Feast Day
This weekend is the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul. This date has been designated as our parish feast day. There will be morning tea after each Mass at St John and Paul Parish. All are welcome to attend.
Orana Day Mass
We warmly invite you to join us for our Orana Day Mass next Friday at 9am in the school hall. This celebration coincides with our parish feast day. Following the Mass, students will enjoy mini fete activities to raise funds for Lifelink, which supports Catholic agencies caring for vulnerable members of our community. Cash donations can be sent with your child or electronic donations can be made via the P&F shop link or by using the QR code below. Thank you for your generous support.
Education Pillar
Junior Family Maths Night
Our Junior Family Maths Night was a wonderful success, with a fantastic turnout despite the wet weather. A big thank you to Catherine Wall and Andy Di Carlantonio for coordinating the evening, and to our Year 1 and 2 staff for preparing engaging game packs and hosting families in their classrooms. We also appreciate the presence and support of our early years staff; thank you all!
Make A Move
This week, our students showcased their creativity and teamwork in the Make a Move concerts. Their co-created dances were performed with joy and enthusiasm to a packed audience. A heartfelt thank you to the students, staff, and parents who collaborated to bring these performances to life. Congratulations also to the lucky families who won the front-row raffle seats!
Mid-Year Reports
Mid-year reports will be distributed next week. These reports provide a summary of your child’s progress against the achievement standards for Semester One. They are a valuable tool for discussing your child’s learning journey; celebrating successes and identifying areas for growth for next semester. We acknowledge the significant time and care our teachers invest in preparing these reports and thank them for their dedication.

First Holy Communion Mass and Celebration
Our Year 4 students received their First Holy Communion at our parish, Saints John and Paul — a truly special milestone in their sacramental journey. Surrounded by family, friends, and our faith community, it was a beautiful celebration of love, faith, and unity. We are so proud of each student for their reverence and preparation. May this moment be the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus through the Eucharist.
The Child Safe Framework
This framework of nine elements combine supporting a child safe culture, healthy and respectful relationships and extended guardianship in school communities, based on the latest research and recognised best practices. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring each of the nine elements. Please view the video below for an introduction to the framework.

Volunteer Spotlight
Viktoria Saar
1. What year level(s) are your children in?
They’re in Pre-primary, Year 4, and Year 6.
2. What keeps you motivated to volunteer, even on the busiest days?
I’ve been lucky to gain skills over the years—things like communication, getting projects off the ground, or bringing people together—and I feel a quiet responsibility to share those when I can. Sometimes it’s not about big things, just lending a hand or an idea. I see it as a small way to give back, not for recognition, just because it feels right.
3. In your view, how does volunteering make an impact on our school community?
So many of the things our kids enjoy at school wouldn’t happen without volunteers. Whether it’s a small event or something bigger, there’s usually a team of volunteers behind the scenes. I think when we pitch in, we’re showing our kids that community matters—that doing things for each other has value beyond the task itself.
4. Fun fact time! What’s something surprising or fun that people might not know about you?
I’m half Estonian and half Russian, and I speak both languages fluently—just like our three boys. I was born in the Soviet Union, which doesn’t exist anymore, and some of my early memories still surprise people. I remember walking to school alone at age seven while tanks were leaving the country. At the time, it felt strangely normal. I’m only 40, but when I share those stories, people often say it sounds like I’ve lived a much longer life. I think growing up that way taught me to appreciate the little things and not to get too caught up in overthinking.
