A Note from Mrs. Pilkington
Greetings WPA Families;
Summer is in full swing and we hope that you are enjoying the time you left have together, the sunny outdoors, and also taking some time to relax! We know that the start of school still feels a long way off, but as we are working hard to prepare for another fantastic year, we want to share a few updates to help you start the school year strong and feeling prepared.
Start of School
The first day of school for all students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be Monday, August 12th. Doors open at 7:45 am and classes begin promptly at 8:00 am.
Drop-off and Pick-up
All drop-offs and pick-ups will be in the front carpool lanes. Please take a moment to refresh yourself on our carpool procedures here.
Back-to-School Night
We will be hosting a Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 8th, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Wasatch Peak Academy. This is an open house-style event with a few opportunities to check in with your child’s literacy and math teacher, and some homeroom information will be sprinkled into each presentation (see schedule below for tentative times). Please drop by to meet teachers, find classrooms, snap photos, sign up for volunteer opportunities, access the list of needed classroom donations, see old friends, and ask questions. We look forward to seeing you then!
Supply Lists
We hope your days are full of sunscreen and swimsuits, but school supplies sales are just around the corner. You can get a jump-start on supply shopping by accessing your child’s supply lists here.
We are Hiring!
We have openings for part-time TA’s, substitutes, and part-time lunchroom aides. If you or someone you know likes working with kids and would enjoy a family-friendly work schedule, please email Mrs. Pilkington.
Parent Volunteer Background Checks and Fingerprinting
Student safety is a high priority here at WPA and we do require completed and approved background checks for parents volunteering to work with students during the school day (e.g., reading to the class, leading spelling groups, helping students practice math facts, making copies, chaperoning field trips, running class parties, etc.).
To make this process more convenient, we offer background checks at the school on Thursday, August 8th, beginning at 1:00 pm. You do not need to make an appointment—just come to the WPA front office between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Please note that the fingerprinting paperwork must be completed with a WPA administrator’s signature before being fingerprinted. You are welcome to pick up the paperwork in the front office before Thursday, August 8th, during open office hours (due to the required signature, it may not be emailed). Lastly, you must have your driver's license with you in addition to the paperwork to be fingerprinted.
Background checks last for three years before they need to be renewed. If you are unsure if your background check is still current, you are welcome to contact our front office (please note summer office hours below).
Class Assignments
Class assignments will be out TOMORROW AUGUST 1ST. You can access them by logging into Aspire. We will notify you via our school messaging system (text and email) as soon as they are up.
Office Hours
The regular office hours will resume starting August 5th, 8:00-3:30!
Kindergarten Update -REQUIRED
Utah State law now requires parents to sign a form confirming that their child is potty trained for the upcoming school year. You can get more details and access the form here. You can also pick up a copy in the front office.
PTO Used Uniform Sale
Our PTO sells used uniforms at the school for $1.00 per item of clothing. The PTO will be having a sale from August 5th to 9th in the school lobby. School shirts (for Patriot Days!) and jackets are available, too!
Thanks,
Amy Pilkington
