Message from Dr. DeWeese
It is hard to believe that we are just a little over a week away from wrapping up the first quarter of the school year. The teachers are looking forward to meeting with parents to share all of the accomplishments students have had this quarter. If you have not set up a time to meet with your child's teacher next week during conferences please be sure to do so before next week. The partnership between home and school is vital to the success of students and we strive to see 100% of our families during conferences.
The implementation of our new English Language Arts curriculum is off to a fantastic start in Kindergarten through Third Grade. Students have done an amazing job publishing their writing and celebrating their efforts for completing a piece of writing. The efforts students are displaying to meet their reading goals should be commended as we have a big focus on all students making a years growth in reading this year.
As you know during conference time we usually have report to share with you regarding your child's MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) scores. Unfortunately, the state has not released any of the data from our Spring testing session yet. As soon as we have that information and we are able to share it with parents we will provide that communication.
All students have participated in a reading assessment this quarter called Fast Bridge. This is a universal screening tool the district uses to analyze a child's reading skills. Students participate in it three times a year. Your child's teacher will be a sharing a report with you during conferences regarding the information about your child's reading skills. Should you have any questions regarding the information please do not hesitate to ask either the teacher, our literacy coach, a reading teacher, or an administrator.
As we finish out the quarter, I want to take the time to say thank you for all your support in getting the school year off to a great start. It is truly an honor to work with all of your children every day. I hope that this fall break you are able to get in some family time and create lasting memories with your child. Should anything arise over fall break please don't hesitate to give me a call or send me an email. I will be out of the office the entire break as my family and I are headed to Disney World for the first time, but will return all message when I get back. Thanks for all that you do to support Harvest Ridge and enjoy the fall break!

Veteran's Day Celebration
Following our assembly families are invited to stay around for a special lunch provided by our staff. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria and students who have family members that attend may attend the lunch with them. We are looking forward to a great celebration.
As part of our celebration we love to have a quest speaker. I am currently on the search for someone willing to be our quest speaker during the whole school assembly. This can be someone who has served or who is currently serving. Please contact Dr. DeWeese via email at natalie.deweese@fhsdschools.org or by calling (636) 851-5156 if you are interested in speaking. This is always a highlight of the celebration and our students always walk away learning a very valuable lesson.

Learning Commons News
Scholastic Book Fair previews have started. The fair runs today through October 11th. We are open daily during school hours and then again in the evening of the conferences, Oct. 9th & 11th. The following link is for the online book fair: http://www.scholastic.com/bf/harvestridge
We are also taking pre-orders for the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book: The Meltdown. Profits from the fair go toward books, technology, Makerspace items, and comfortable seating. Thank you in advance for supporting our book fair and your child’s love of reading.
Our school is having a costume day to benefit the Honor Flight program. If students want to wear a costume, we request that they each bring a $1 or more donation. Students may wear their costumes to school on October 31st. We do ask that there be no masks, make-up, or weapons of any kind. Money donated will go to the St. Louis region Honor Flight. It costs about $650 to send one veteran. From the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight (gslhonorflight.org) website: The Mission of Greater St. Louis Honor Flight is to recognize our veterans – most urgently our World War II veterans – with a day of honor, remembrance and celebration. We do this with a one-day, all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial, built to honor their service and sacrifice. The following link is a YouTube video about Honor Flight:

Thanks in advance for your donations.
New Chromebooks
As we purchase the new chrome books we redistribute some of the technology that we have in the building. At this time we are redistributing two sets of chrome books to second grade for their use in publishing writing and for students to take their math assessments. The technology is in great condition, it is just unable to hold the updates for our state assessment this year. Second grade teachers are excited for the new resource. We plan to redistribute our ipads to our kindergarten and first grade classrooms, which will increase the number of ipads per student in those grades.
Movie Night
Attendance
Our second grade students and our fifth grade students will have a special attendance celebration on Friday, October 12th by wearing a hat to school. Each month a grade level earns a celebration by having the highest attendance. One grade is chosen in the primary grades and one in the intermediate grades. Congrats to both grade levels on their accomplishment.
On Friday, October 5th the class that has had the highest attendance from the start of school will have a pizza party. The winner of this awesome party is Mrs. Crawford's first grade class. Thanks to everyone who ordered pizza on Papa John's night we have earned a class pizza party and will use it to celebrate attendance.
Thanks for all of your efforts to help ensure your child is at school every day. Please remember that coming to school late and leaving early count towards missed instruction time and towards attendance for the school day.

School Spirit Store
The store is run by our Student Council members. Students will order their items online via a google form. Student Council will review the orders and then deliver the items to the classroom. The store is set to open when students return from fall break.
All of the items promote Harvest Ridge and our Hawk Pride. Some of the items that students may purchase are relationship based items like lunch with the principal, tech time, or time in another classroom to help out. Special thanks to our PTO for helping to get the school store up and running by donating $2000 for the purchase of the items. We would not have been able to make this happen without that support.
Students are really excited to start spending their tickets! You can view all of the available items by clicking the link below. The class rewards are also listed below.
