School Climate Survey
We need your input!
The South Carolina Department of Education is asking parents of students to participate in a school climate survey for OBMS. The survey is managed and completed entirely in the Power School site. Accessing the Parent and Guardian School Climate Survey link through Parent Portal in the browser:
Enter your username and password to log in to your Parent Portal Account.
Select the Forms link from the left-hand navigation bar.
Click on the form titled ‘2025 PARENT AND GUARDIAN SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY’ to open the form.
Click on the link within the form
On the Qualtrics survey page that appears, follow the instructions to complete and submit the survey.
Repeat the steps listed above if you have multiple students associated with your Parent Portal and you wish to submit a separate response for another student listed.

Congrats to our OBMS Student of the Week nominated by Dr. Tina Medina. She nominated 6th grader Aubrey Davidson. Dr. Medina says, “I am proud to recognize Aubrey Davidson, an exemplary student who consistently demonstrates dedication and a strong work ethic. Aubrey not only assists me with classroom chores, but also consistently puts forth her best effort in everything she does. She stays on top of her assignments, goes above and beyond to ensure her work is of the highest quality, and is always willing to help others when needed.
Her kindhearted nature and respectful attitude toward both classmates and teachers make her a joy to have in the classroom. You are a great role model, Aubrey, and we look forward to seeing all the great things you will continue to accomplish. Congratulations, and keep up the fantastic work!” Great job, Aubrey!

The Horry County Soil and Water Conservation District (HC SWCD) recently held an essay contest for students in the 2024-2025 school year, centered around the theme "Wetlands are Wonderful." This contest allowed students to explore the vital role wetlands play in our environment and the importance of their conservation.

Earth Day at the Bay 17th year celebration: Mrs. Lilly says, "Thank you to all who came out from our community, thank you to all the children who helped at the festival and thank you to our sponsors! We are truly fortunate people. huge thank you to my two colleagues, Alex Del Castillo & Tyler Woodson, I could not have pulled this off without the two of you!"
Student Council held a campus cleanup during OBM’s Earth Day event and raffled baskets raising money for The March of Dimes! It was a very fun and successful day! Stingray Football Spring Tryouts
Stingray Football will be hosting spring workouts starting Thursday, May 1st.
Any student athletes who are interested in participating in B-Team Football Spring Workouts must complete the following:
Have a completed physical dated on or after April 1st, 2025; physicals can be found at the front desk of the school
Have all forms completed and cleared on Student Central/Big Teams
Complete the Stingray Football Information Form
Any player that wishes to participate in any physical activity must be cleared on Student Central / Big Teams.
Printable version of the 2025-2026 HCS physical form, Information on Student Central/Big Teams and the Stingray Football Information Form can all be found on the Stingray Football website under the "Join the Team" tab.

Interested in Band or Orchestra Next School Year?
Any OBM students entering seventh or eighth grade next year who are interested in joining either choir or orchestra - please let a music teacher at school know ASAP. Band will also be accepting new students but for seventh grade only.

HCS Technology Fair
Ocean Bay Middle School will take a team of students to the Technology Fair this year as part of the Tech Club. All students who wish to participate must check in with Mrs. Livingston by Friday, February 21st, before completing the online registration. OBM may enter up to 5 students in each category, so all participants must be approved by Mrs. Livingston, Mrs. Beattie, and Mr. Sperling before competing. OBM Tech Club will provide transportation to the Convention Center, but all participants must be picked up by a parent/guardian at the Convention Center upon competition completion. Permission slips and more information will be provided in March.

Tutoring at the Bay
Ocean Bay Middle School is proud to offer every student the opportunity to participate in our Extended Learning Program for additional academic support outside of the regular school day. Your student is invited to participate in our Rays Extended Learning Program.
In the Rays Extended Learning Program, sessions will be held in the afternoons on Tuesday and Thursday from after school until 4:45 PM, beginning on September 10, 2024.
Students will receive assistance on content area assignments, homework, and any missing assignments reflected from PowerSchool. Students will have the opportunity to work on digital content as well.
A permission form is required. Students are not required to attend every session offered. They may attend as needed.
Bus transportation will NOT be provided. All students are to be picked up by 4:45 PM. If your student is not picked up by 5:00 PM, it is possible that your child will be unable to participate in the afternoon Extended Learning Program.

Student Council
Student council is open to all 6th-8th grade students. Student council is a group of student leaders who work with adult advisors to collaborate with others to impact their school community. These students will participate in school fundraisers, create student events, work on school improvement projects, and participate in community outreach.

If your child is going to be absent, please email OBMattendance@horrycountyschools.net regarding any attendance matters (i.e. absences, illnesses, medical notes, questions, etc). If your child is out sick you must have a medical excuse note from a doctor. Notify your child's teacher via the Parent PowerSchool account if you have any questions or concerns pertaining to the class assignments.
HCS Clear Bag Protocol
School safety is everyone’s responsibility! The single most effective preventative tool regarding school safety and security is the “If you see something, say something ®” protocol. It is critically important that if students see or hear something that is concerning, they say something to a trusted adult or report it below.
Reminder from the Nurse
The Tdap vaccine is required before entering the 7th grade. The Tdap vaccine is (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis/Whooping Cough), which your child has had as a toddler.
For your child to be compliant with the SC Immunization Law Requirements you must provide proof of vaccine on a valid SC Certificate of Immunization.
Please make an appointment with your child’s health care provider. Other providers such as Urgent Care and Minute Clinic, administer Tdap vaccines as well.
If your child has already had the Tdap vaccine, please submit it to the school nurse. You can also email it to mireland@horrycountyschools.net or Fax to 843-903-8421

South Carolina Dental Screening Associates
South Carolina Dental Screening Associates (SCDSA) are licensed dentists, dental hygienists and assistants that go into schools and other facilities throughout SC to provide dental services to children ages 1 - 19.
Parents do not have to miss work and students do not have to leave school, so routine dental care is easily managed by our program. We provide dental services and oral health education at on-site locations as needed or when requested.
