PICTURES & NEWS
CLiF BOOKS AT ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL
On Friday, October 6th, the retiring director of the Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF), Duncan McDougall, came to share his love for books with 3rd through 6th graders in the library. CLiF has been working with St. Albans City School for years and has shared many, many free books with our students. This year is no different. CLiF will be giving a large group of books to our current middle elementary school children. In addition, CLiF will be orchestrating visits by a number of highly respected children's book authors throughout the school year.
This last Friday, Mr. McDougall talked about the wide variety of books available from CLiF and our library to broaden our minds. He also read wonderful books, like Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, to the students. Mr. McDougall, and the stories he read, had the students' excited and full attention. Link to 35 Pictures.
Here is what the CLiF website says about what the organization does:
CLiF arranges for more than 65 professional authors, illustrators, poets, graphic novelists, and storytellers to give inspiring presentations for children. These memorable events help kids get excited about books, stories, reading, and writing. CLiF holds nearly 1,000 events each year.
At almost every CLiF event children can select new, high-quality books of their choice from hundreds of titles. In some CLiF programs, children can pick at least ten new books of their choice over one year. CLiF also donates significant collections of new, high-quality children’s books to school libraries.
Note: A number of St. Albans City School staff deserve recognition for seeking and receiving the large grant from CLiF that made this program possible this year: Ashley Levine, Stacie Rouleau, Angie Fitzgerald, & Liz Sato. Thank you.
BIKING FRIDAY REPORT
It was a breezy and spectacular Friday to bike or walk to school on October 6th, 2023. Three of the adults on the climate committee (Ms. Bashaw, Ms. Chisholm and Ms. Draper) gathered at Houghton Park at 6:50 am. before departing at 7:00 with bikers in one group and walkers in another. Everybody got to school between 7:15 and 7:20 AM. Altogether, there were 24 people who checked in at the entry table and who collected some small incentives for their participation. Please note that there are two more Biking (and walking) Fridays remaining in October. We welcome more participants. Link to 13 Pictures.
INVESTIGATORS AT THE ECHO LEARNING CENTER
It is clear from the photos shared by teachers on the team, that they had a wonderful time at the ECHO center. Link to 18 Pictures.
TRAVELERS CELEBRATION
One of Ms. Cox's students won a popcorn party for their class from a cafeteria contest. They read the story of Aladdin in their amplify reading curriculum. So, they decided to watch the movie Aladdin to compare it to the book, and enjoy the yummy popcorn. The kids were absolutely ecstatic. Link to 3 Pictures.

BIKING FRIDAYS IN OCTOBER (FROM HOUGHTON PARK TO SCHOOL)
“It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.”
— The Lorax
Greetings from the Climate Committee! We are announcing Biking Fridays from Houghton Park during the month of October! If you don’t have a bike, walking is an option although bikers and walkers will not be kept together while getting to school.
Meet up at Houghton Park earliest at 6:50 and leaving at 7:00.
We are doing this because if you walk, bike, or carpool to school, it lessens air pollution and hopefully our actions will slow global warming.
Thank you for reading, biking and walking!
