Bulletin w/c 27th January 2025 - Week 1
Year 11 PPE Results
Year 11 students received their PPE results this week, affording them the valuable opportunity to assess their progress ahead of their final GCSEs, which will take place later this year. Whilst some students celebrated their achievements, others faced the reality that they need to adjust their study strategies to ensure they’re on track for success in the summer exams. We will use these results to put supportive measures and interventions in place to ensure that every student achieves their full potential. Year 11 students conducted themselves extremely well during the examination period and Study Club and revision sessions continue to be very well attended. During tutor time, we will be focusing on how to revise effectively and sharing the best strategies for retaining information and preparing for exams. Please support your children by ensuring they have a quiet space to work, are supported with revision materials and help them organise a revision schedule and stick to it. We are also mindful that this is a stressful period where they will need to look after their physical and mental wellbeing and pastoral staff will be supporting them to achieve this.
International
Year 10 Cadiz Exchange
This week we were excited to welcome students from La Salle Buen Consejo, in Puerto Real near Cadiz for our new Spanish Long Term exchange. The students will be attending lessons with their partners over the next 3 weeks and fully integrating into life at the school. We're looking forward to our Year 10 students then heading to Spain in March to visit them.
Lower Sixth Frankfurt Students
We were pleased to welcome our partners from Frankfurt for our Lower Sixth Work Experience exchange. They had a business lesson with Mr Knights, learning about the economy of the UK before heading into Chelmsford to meet the Mayor. They will now spend two weeks in their work placements. Our Sixth Form students will be heading to Frankfurt in June for their return leg.
Frankfurt Long Term Exchange - Return Visit
Our group of Year 10 students arrived in Frankfurt on Sunday evening to a warm welcome from old friends at the airport. It was wonderful to see exchange partners reunited and plenty of smiling faces as they met host parents and siblings for the first time. The students will spend the next 8 weeks living and learning in Germany. It's an amazing opportunity for each of them to learn more about the culture, whilst improving their German language skills. Can you spot our little stowaway?
Native Speaker GCSE Entries
We are able to facilitate the GCSE entries for Native Speakers who are Year 9 and above and attend our Native Speaker classes. Suitability for entry in the current academic year is decided by the class teacher. If your child does not attend the Native Speaker class but you would like them to be considered for entry, please email enquiries@aesessex.co.uk FAO Mrs Latimer. We are able to offer GCSE entry in Chinese Mandarin, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian & Spanish.
Please ensure that the examination dates do not clash with your child participating on a school visit or exchange in June. Dates can be checked using this weblink https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/Support/Examination-timetables-for-UK-Edexcel-GCSE/gcse-summer-2025-final.pdf
For Chinese Mandarin and Polish, please check this weblink https://filestore.aqa.org.uk/admin/t_table_pdf/AQA-TT-GCSE-JUN25-CONFIRMED.PDF
Speaking examinations will be arranged in advance and will be completed during the first 2 weeks after the Easter break. All requests need to be made by 31st January.
Youth Talent Programme
Mr Knights met with Stephen this week, a Lower Sixth student who competes and trains as part of the national Youth Talent programme, endorsed by England Athletics. Stephen explained that he has been selected as one of 200 top athletes nationally and attends Loughborough University to take part in sessions with top coaches and sports psychologists. As part of the programme, Stephen is taking part in a course which awards UCAS points and teaches him about the importance of technical coaching, optimal conditioning and performance support in areas such as nutrition and psychology. Stephen said "The programme aims to complement club provision and add value to me as the athlete and to my coach's plan to help develop a broad range of skills, abilities and behaviours needed for senior success." Stephen looks forward to seeing where his passions and clear athletic abilities take him as he is likely to pursue a career in this industry. For more information on this programme see https://www.englandathletics.org/team-england/talent-pathway/youth-talent-programme/
Parking Concerns
The school would like to remind students and parents to follow the parking restriction signs in the local proximity to the school, especially on Willow Green. Parking is restricted at certain times and Sixth Form students are especially reminded to not park in front of driveways or on bends in the road. We have received a number of complaints in recent weeks and Highways England will be patrolling the area in the weeks to come.
Parents are reminded to collect their children from the car parks in the village and students are encouraged to use public transport where possible. Thank you for your support in ensuring a safe environment beyond our school gates.
