Fancher Elementary PTO

Students receive reports three times per year at the elementary level; at the end of each trimester. As an upper elementary student, your student will earn numbers that are rubric-based at the end as we report on student academic progress. Students will be receiving a 3, 2, or a 1 just as you are used to seeing in the past on their report card. Students will not be receiving letter grades. The scale will be as follows:

I know it might be hard to believe with these warmer fall temperatures we are getting.

As we gear up for colder temperatures please make sure your student brings the proper winter gear with them to school. We go outside each day unless it is raining or below 0 for a classroom recess and a lunch recess. It helps if your student's items are labeled as well, so if things end up in the lost & found they can be returned!

Students need to have warm clothing, including winter coat, hat, gloves/mittens, boots, snow pants. These items can be expensive, if you need help please write in a note in your child's school agenda for their teacher. We can see how we can help.

In reviewing the data collected through FinalForms, it was found that we had an issue with the information that was collected on the Education Benefits form. This information is used to determine how funding is calculated for many of the grants and programs that we participate in. We have cleared out the information in this form and we are asking that everyone please use the link below to log back into FinalForms and make sure that all parts of the Education Benefits form are filled out. Please make sure to sign the form when completed. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate you taking the time to fill this form out again. All medications must be brought to the office with the appropriate health form. Please do not send medications to school with your child. This includes inhalers and epi-pens.

We kicked of the new school year at Fancher Elementary teaching and learning SOAR (Safety Ownership Attitude Respect), to teach and reinforce positive behavior expectations in all areas of the school from the classroom to the playground. Each area of our school day, has a focused set up positive expectations that we teach, model, and practice - on what Safety looks like, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect.

Our SOAR matrix is at the front of your student's agenda in the pages include for the student handbook, we encourage you to review these expectations at home with your child too.

Daily our students earning Dojo Points for meeting positive expectations, we recognize students who are SOARing with our Fancher School Store, Positive Office Referrals, Positive Postcards mailed home, and SOAR Student Shout Outs each month.

We know our students are still growing and developing mentally and socially, so we recognize it is always a work in progress when teaching and reteaching expectations. We utilize restorative practices - including repairing the harm, circle ups, and more.

Students have now practiced each part of our lockdown protocol. We have practiced 2 Fire Drills as a building.

During the school year, our buildings are obligated to practice at least 5 Fire Drills, 2 Tornado Drills and 3 Lockdown drills. At times, we do have our YSU Liason or other police officers from the Police Department assist in our drills. We cover with our students the locations of where to go for each drill, what to do during specific drills, and how to properly evacuate when it is needed. You can also find this information in your child's Handbook in the front of the student agenda.

CELL PHONE SAFETY:

1. Set Clear Rules: Establish guidelines about when and how the phone can be used. Discuss appropriate times for phone use, such as not during meals or homework.

2. Monitor App Downloads: Keep an eye on the apps your child downloads. Encourage them to only use age-appropriate apps and discuss the potential risks associated with certain platforms.

3. Educate About Privacy Settings: Show your child how to adjust privacy settings on social media. Emphasize the importance of keeping personal information private and only sharing with trusted friends.

4. Discuss Online Behavior: Talk about the importance of respectful communication online. Encourage them to think before they send messages or post content, reminding them that words can be easily misinterpreted.

5. Teach Them About Digital Footprint: Explain that anything shared online can leave a permanent mark. Discuss the implications of sharing images or personal thoughts and how they can affect future opportunities.

6. Encourage Open Communication: Let your child know they can come to you if they encounter something troubling or inappropriate. Create a safe space for them to share their online experiences without fear of punishment.

7. Set Up Parental Controls: Use parental control features to monitor usage and restrict access to inappropriate content. Adjust these settings as your child matures and demonstrates responsibility.

8. Lead by Example: Model good phone etiquette and behavior. Show them how you manage your device, prioritize face-to-face interactions, and set boundaries for your own phone use.

9. Discuss Cyberbullying: Talk about what cyberbullying is and how to recognize it. Encourage your child to speak up if they see or experience bullying and discuss ways to handle such situations.

10. Regular Check-Ins: Have periodic discussions about your child’s online experiences. Ask about their favorite apps, who they communicate with, and if they feel safe. This keeps the conversation ongoing and shows that you care.

By implementing these tips, you can help your middle schooler navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

Each Friday we will sell Popcorn for $.50/bag. Students can bring their coins or dollar bills in sandwich baggies or put in the back of their agenda in the clear pocket or a safe zipper. Teachers will collect popcorn in the morning and place the order.

Fancher Student Handbook

Fancher has a no student cell phone policy in our student handbook. If a cell phone comes to school with a student it should be turned off and stored in their locker from 8:40am-3:49pm.

We also have a not hats or hoods policy inside the school building, students can wear them outside during recess.

Also students may not wear backpacks to and from class or the belt bag style bags.

Friendly reminder of our No Outside Food policy for Student Lunch time. Students must bring their lunch to school or choose a school lunch option.

MPPS Nutrition Club is a unique community support that provides supplemental, weekend food twice a month to participating students.

If your son or daughter qualifies for free or reduced school meals and this nutritional support is needed, he or she is welcome to be enrolled and participate in the MPPS – Nutrition Club.

MPPS - Nutrition Club is made possible through an amazing partnership with the Community Compassion Network and Greater Lansing Food Bank. Financial support is provided by generous donations from many community members and organizations including Mount Pleasant City Women’s Club, Mount Pleasant Area Community Foundation, First United Methodist Church and many other local businesses and groups. In addition there is a multitude of volunteers who donate their time to make this program happen.
