Reading & Writing Workshop
In Writing Workshop, we are doing personal narrative writing. We are working on writing stories that have a solid beginning, middle and ending. We are trying to include many details in our stories, as well as remembering to use spaces, punctuation and correct capitalization. We've been very busy during writing time!
Language Workshop
We have been practicing retelling fiction stories. We know that it is important for us to focus on the beginning, middle, and ending of stories. It is also important for us to consider the problem and the solution of the story.
Math Workshop
These past few weeks, we have been working in our Base 10 Unit. In Kindergarten, it is important that we understand how teen numbers are made. We know that teen numbers are made up of a ten, with some loose items left over. This is an introduction to place value. We have learned many ways to show our understanding of teen numbers, including representing the numbers with ten frames, math racks, tally marks, sticks of tens plus some loose ones, number bonds and equations.

Springtime reminders
With warmer weather approaching, we want to remind you that your child should not wear flip flops to school. Your child should also avoid wearing sandals with heels, including a wedge heel. In recent years, we have seen our share of broken bones due to accidents that have occurred during recess time and we’re trying to prevent this from happening. Children should be wearing sturdy footwear to school in which they can safely run, climb and play. While out shopping for summer footwear, you may want to consider sandals where the toes are fully covered and the sandal strap is secure.
Also, please be sure your child has appropriate footwear for the days he/she goes to the gym. Unless your child has an extra pair of gym shoes here at school, he/she should be wearing gym shoes to school each gym day.

We're going to the zoo!
May 21st. The permission slip with more information will be sent home in a couple of weeks. All students must ride the bus and pay the required field trip fees. Adult chaperones will be responsible for their own transportation and admission fees to the zoo. Important note: field trip chaperones may not bring younger children to the zoo with them. There will be a place on the permission slip for you to indicate your interest in joining us. In addition, before someone is accepted as a chaperone, there needs to be an approved background check on file with the district. If you have not submitted a background approval yet and you hope to attend the zoo trip, you must submit a background check as soon as possible. It can take up to two weeks for the process to be completed. Please be sure to take care of this right away if you are interested! You can find the secure volunteer link on the home page of the School District of Waukesha website.
