LIECK IMAGINATION Parent Edition
October 2024 Newsletter
INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL DAY: 7:45 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Welcome to October Lieck Families!
Can you believe we are already in the month of October! Those first weeks of school went fast!
We hope your child has adjusted well as we finish up the 7th week of school. We have seen them learn the routines and procedures of the school and classroom and really starting to thrive.
This year we have seen the need to make safety improvements around the school such as increased safety drills, door checks and increased staff visibility. One new procedure we recently implemented is check in procedures in the morning for parents. Fast passes are coming up for renewal. (Every grading period) You are welcome to visit our front desk to scan your ID so that the front office staff can work on your new FAST PASS for the second nine weeks. Don't want a FAST PASS? No worries, please just be sure to show your ID so that we can get you a visitor pass.
In terms of academics, some students are coming in slightly behind and some are coming in exactly where they need to be. If there was one thing that I can say to my parents, they are EXACTLY where they need to be and we will grow together.
Small Group Instruction:
Now that we are moving into week 8 and beyond your child is working at developing plans to accomplish their academic goals. One instructional strategy we use to target student learning is to have students work in small groups with the teacher. This type of instruction occurs in both reading and math. Research shows that students work better in small groups with targeted skills and concepts for concept attainment. It also allows students to develop their oral language and social skills when working with the teacher.
Panorama Survey: On Tuesday, October 15th, 3rd -5th grade students will take the Student Panorama Survey. Surveys will be administered during school on 10/15/24. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please contact Ms. Monique Moore (Denise.Moore@nisd.net) by October 14th. If your child opts out of the fall survey, he/she will also be opted out for the spring survey.
Parent Conferences: Now that MAP testing is done, we want to meet with all families to discuss your child's progress. Be on the lookout for an invitation from your child's teacher for a fall conference.
We are excited to see all the positive things that October brings!

Drop Off & Dismissal Procedures
Drop Off and Dismissal
Parents, you are welcome to walk your child to class before 7:40am.
Please check in with staff in the lobby to receive your pass. You can drop off your child curbside or at the door and our staff will take over from there.
Additionally at dismissal, we highly encourage for families to remain in their vehicle at front pick-up to avoid unsafe, unnecessary crowding. For our "walk-up" parents, we will continue to use the side areas as waiting areas and we will bring your child to you.
All Visitors will need to check in the Front Office for a Pass
If you have received your 1st 9 weeks pass, it is time again to rescan your ID!
Please stop by the front office starting Oct 1st. Thank you
2024 Lieck Morning Visitors and FAST Pass Procedures
*Morning Check In Procedures for Visitors are Changing
In efforts to continually improve our safety procedures at Lieck, we will be adjusting our visitor check in procedures in the morning, from 7:00am-7:40am. This change will go into effect starting, Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
What is changing?
All visitors must scan their ID or Driver’s License through our Raptor System upon arrival. Visitors will be issued a sticker with profile and visitor information generated by the Raptor System. Thank you for your patience and understanding as there may be long lines to enter the building. Each day will run a little smoother and faster.
Lieck FAST Pass
The Lieck FAST Pass will be available pending background check status. The FAST Pass will be valid through the end of the grading period. Parents and visitors will still need to check in every day and have the pass visible at all times. Parents must also scan their ID through our Raptor System (once per grading cycle). Parents, please fill this link out and the front office will be able to determine if you are eligible upon your visit to receive the Lieck Fast Pass. If you are interested in having a FAST PASS created (pending a cleared background) please complete the following form so that the front office staff can start working on your pass.
FAST PASS Interest Google Form
*Background checks may take a few days to process so we thank you in advance for your patience.
Background check Website:

*Passes are color coordinated and will have the parent/ visitor profile picture on them. Passes must be visible at all times while on campus.
*Each 9 Weeks the badge color system will change. All pass holders will need to reapply using our Raptor System (upon check in). This practice is intended to further improve our safety and security procedures here at Lieck Elementary.

A Word from the Nurse
The school nurse does not diagnose illnesses but takes notes of the symptoms and notifies the parent/guardian of the observations. If a child becomes ill or injured at school, the student will be assessed and given first aid, and the parent/guardian will be notified if the severity of the injury or illness warrants such action.
Children should be kept at home when ill and are expected to be free of fever (temperature less than 100.0° F) and free of communicable diseases in order to attend school. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code, students are required to be excluded from school until fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The Texas Department of State Health Services defines fever as a temperature of 100.0°F or greater. This is important for the health of the child and for the health of all children at the school.
Student Dress Code
STUDENT BIRTHDAYS
Parents may send store-bought, prepackaged individually frosted cupcakes, cookies, or doughnuts only for their child’s classroom to recognize their child’s birthday (no cakes, cupcake cakes, ice cream, etc.). As an alternative to food, parents may send an item for each student in the class such as stickers, stationary, pencils, etc. These items should be safe, inexpensive, easy to pass out, and not promote any political, religious, or other slogans/beliefs. School personnel will have the sole discretion as to whether or not the items are appropriate to pass out. It is best to check with your child’s teacher in advance.
Balloons, goodie bags, or food items (other than those above) are strictly prohibited. When purchasing cupcakes, be aware that there are a number of students on campus that have food allergies. Check with your child’s teacher before sending cupcakes to school to ensure items sent can be taken to the classroom. Cupcakes are to be dropped off at the school office and our staff will deliver them to the classrooms near the end of the school day. The cupcakes must not be eaten in the cafeteria and will be passed out to the children at the very end of the school day in order to limit disruption to instructional time. Parents and family members are not allowed to deliver cupcakes to the classroom.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

-PTA CORNER-
Buses and Boundaries
Northside ISD assigns students to schools according to the street address where the student resides. Our Boundaries and Buses Information System will provide you with the name and address of the schools serving your area. Just enter the student’s street number and street name to search for school assignment, bus route information, and any future Board adopted boundary changes.
For general boundary information, attendance area maps for each elementary, middle & high schools are listed on the campus sites.
While one-on-one communication is the best, in a district as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want our parents to stay informed, NISD has several ways that parents and other interested citizens can stay informed about the successes and challenges of San Antonio’s premier school district of choice, as well as find out news about their children’s schools.
