Good Times @ EPE
Newsletter - Friday, May 9th, 2025
We wanted to take a moment to thank families for their feedback on the new school lunch program. We recognize that this is a significant change from the previous Chartwells menu, and organizational structure. Food choices, in any way, are an inherently personal thing, and for many of our families, these changes are fabulous - increased food variety, healthier options, and reduced cost will be beneficial. Similarly, for some of our families, these changes will be impactful as their students may not be familiar with some of the items on the menu.
We understand that change can be challenging, and this is a pilot program. As such, we do encourage our families to help shape the change by providing their feedback to schoolfoodnl@gov.nl.ca so that we can shape a healthy, accessible program across the province.
Thank you for all of your patience and understanding as we work through this change.

Important Kinderstart Information
It is almost time for Kinderstart registration, please see below for details:
You may be asking, am I registering for KinderStart or Kindergarten? The answer is BOTH! When you register your child for Kindergarten, you are registering for KinderStart during the 2025 / 2026 school year and Kindergarten the following September.
Children must be five (5) years of age on or before December 31, 2026 in order to register.
When registration starts, the visual at right is how the initial registration page will appear (click to open preview PDF of the form). This is NOT the actual form to fill out, it is only a sample of the actual form for your convenience). If you are registering twins, there will be an option on the second page for you to continue to register a second child.
You will need the following in order to complete an online application:
- MCP number including expiration date;
- An email address in order to receive confirmation of receipt of your application;
- What school you are zoned for (Please use the School Catchment Viewer HERE);
- Contact phone number and an emergency contact phone number; and,
- An Internet-ready device
To complete the registration process, proof of address and confirmation of MCP number must be provided to the school on or before May 30, 2025.
This registration process is for children who will attend KinderStart in the upcoming 2025 / 2026 school year and Kindergarten in the following 2026 / 2027 school year. Children registered in KinderStart will automatically be registered to attend Kindergarten.
Additionally, for further information on the Provincial Government/Department of Education Pre-Kindergarten Pilot Program, which is being managed by the YMCA, can be found by visiting their dedicated PreKindergarten Program website. Feel free to check back regularly for updates.
Online Registration for Kinderstart(2025)/Kindergarten(2026) will get underway May, 2025 for both the English and Early French Immersion programs, as per the NLSchools' School Zoning, Student Registration and Transfers (PROG-311) policy. The registration dates are outlined below:

Building Security & Pick Up Notes
A gentle reminder about a couple of items as we look to ensure that the building is as safe as possible for all of our learners:
- Parents and Guardians should only enter the school at the office entrance and check in at the office.
- Visitors should sign in at the office and collect an ID tag from Ms. Frost or Ms. Engram
- For dismissal during the school day please collect students at the office
- A reminder that students should be in school for 8:20 each day. Students that arrive after this time should check in at the office before proceeding to class.
- Please avoid pickup changes during the school day unless absolutely necessary. Please contact the office by phone if there is an emergency to change these (teachers are often unable to access emails during the work day).
Thank you, in advance, for your assistance with this

Notes for Next Year
Believe it, or not, we are at the time of year when we are beginning to look at the building set up for next year. We will often have requests from parents regarding classes or teachers for the upcoming year. Please be aware that our educators are fantastic professionals, and that a huge amount of hard work goes into developing class lists. As such, we are likely unable to accommodate individual class requests for students.
