- “Tarde injustificado” Se marca si llega tarde a clase
Gracias,
Message From Principal Harvey and Admin Team
Hello Hazelbrook MS Families,
At Hazelbrook, we strongly believe that preparing our students for future success relies on school attendance rates. We want to partner with families to strive for a 90% attendance rate or better for Hazelbrook students. When it comes to absences 9 or less is best!
Chronic absenteeism, regardless of whether absences are excused or unexcused, is defined as missing 10% of the school year (18 days). Students who are chronically absent face challenges and barriers that have the potential to impede their long term success, including graduating from high school, attending college or entering the workforce. Understanding the impact of chronic absenteeism empowers students, families, and communities to make informed decisions about school attendance.
Policies and information related to attendance at HMS.
Each week, attendance is reviewed, including lateness and skipping of classes.
If your student is found to have skipped class or is late to class too many times, we want you to be aware and informed of this information. We will continue to call home if students are found skipping, but we are adding another communication layer about students being late to class.
If your student is late to 4 or more classes in a week you will begin to receive automated calls and texts to inform you of this concern, and your student will be assigned lunch detention. Here is the full description of our tardy and skipping policy for your review.
Important Attendance Notes:
- Teachers take attendance within the first 10 minutes of class
- Students without a valid pass to excuse them and miss any section of class beginning, middle, or end for 20 minutes or more will be considered skipping.
- “Unexcused Absences” Marked if the student never came to class.
- “Unexcused Late” Marked if tardy to class
At Hazelbrook, we want to see each and every student in our classrooms every single school day. If you are experiencing obstacles to your student’s regular attendance and would like assistance please contact us. If you have any questions related to Hazelbrook’s attendance procedure or about your student’s specific attendance rate, please call the attendance line at 503-431-5121.
Thank you,
