Wildcat Weekly!
Wildcat Newsletter!
I want to thank you for your flexibility and understanding related to the schedule this week. Our delayed openings on Tuesday (weather) and Wednesday (power outage) is how we started the week. Our students and staff certainly rolled with the adjustments to the schedule, as did all of you. We appreciate your support. As you know, changes like these highlights the importance of our communication systems such as ParentSquare, email, Instagram, robocalls, and classroom based communication apps. Some tips for receiving the most updated communication are using the banners and notification highlights on your smart phones for these apps whenever we post to them. Also frequently checking email and all of our communication systems can be effective. All in all, our school community did an incredible job so we thank you for your help!
Our school and district community received an amazing give from Farro's Tees on Fischer Boulevard in Toms River. This amazing company donated hundreds of fleeces to our school district. This act of kindness and generosity was an amazing uplift for all of us. Thank you to to Dominic at Farro's Tees for this gift!
We hope you had a great Winter Break! We are in January and in a few weeks will will have reached the halfway point of the school year. So far we have enjoyed amazing moments and incredible successes as a school community. January, February, and March are months of enormous potential for our students, as they normally make incredible academic gains during these months. Please continue to stress the importance of being here every day and ready to learn. Last week, I sent a letter to all parents stressing the importance of the winter months for your student's educational and social gains. Let's please work together to make this school year a time of incredible growth!

In January, we shift our Kindness Campaign to the topic of Citizenship. This involves being a responsible member of our school, our community, and the world. It means respecting laws and rules, showing respect and kindness to others, and working together to make our community a better place. In our classrooms, we're exploring what it means to be a good citizen through various activities and discussions. Students are learning about the value of participating in class and school activities, following rules and guidelines, and understanding their role in the community. We are also encouraging students to think about ways they can contribute positively, such as helping out at home, volunteering in the community, or simply being considerate and respectful toward their peers and teachers. Our Citizenship quote of the week: 'Every action, big or small, can contribute to a better community.'
Please see the pictures below of our latest PBSIS winners...recognized for being safe respectful and responsible.

Los Reyes Magos (The Three Kings)
On January 6th, the Toms River High School East Hispanic Heritage Club came to visit our Walnut Street Hispanic Heritage Club. Under the direction of Mrs. Liz Rodriguez (Toms River High School East) and assisted by Mrs. Robin Marra and Mrs. Kristine DeNardo (Walnut Street Elementary School) students participated in fun, cultural, and educational experiences for Los Reyes Magos (The Three Kings). The students shared in a trivia game, songs, crafts, and much knowledge on the holiday. It was a wonderful learning experience for all! Thank you to Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Marra, Mrs. DeNardo, and all of the students for making this such an incredible event!

Stay Connected! School Communication
As you know, district and school communication are vitally important. Here at Walnut Street Elementary School, we use various means of communication. ParentSquare is a communication app that we use to get information out quickly to our school community. It is a great idea to download the ParentSquare app to your Smartphone and make sure you use banners, sounds, badges, and push notifications so you know a message was sent. ParentSquare also sends an email to you when something is posted and can also translate into any language. Please download the app today!
Finally, the school has an active Instagram Account that we post the many happenings at Walnut Street. This account has over 360 followers. On this handle, we post amazing pictures and video of the goings on during the school year. Please follow us on Instagram: @wsewildcats
