The Loker School Scoop! 3-11-25

Tuesday, March 11, 2025
Dear Loker School Community,
I hope that you had a nice weekend! At our School Meeting last week, Team PRIDE did an excellent job in educating our Loker scholars about the importance of bus safety. The video of this performance can be found at the link below: 3/6/25 Team PRIDE Performance Similarly, our School Meeting read aloud was from Steve Hartman's Kindness 101 program in sharing the inspirational story of Josiah Johnson, a thirteen year old children who was born without legs, working tremendously hard to make the middle school basketball team. This wonderful story demonstrated to our Loker scholars that those with a disability can accomplish great things just like anyone else and that the path to get there just might be a little different. The video can be found at the following link: 3/6/25 School Meeting Read Aloud
We have members of our school community observing Ramadan and Lent currently. Ramadan, which occurs this year from February 28th to March 29th in the Muslim faith, traditionally involves individuals fasting from sunrise until sundown each day. For Loker scholars who are observing Ramadan and fasting, we have alternative locations available for them during lunch, a space for mid-day prayer and teachers understand that fasting can affect an individual's energy level, concentration, assessment performance and physical education participation. As a result, we are prepared to offer alternatives if helpful. In addition, Lent happens this year from March 5th through April 17th in the Christian faith. Within this observance, many Christians choose not to eat meat on Fridays so we ensure that there are lunch options that do not have meat within them on Fridays.
Lastly, I want to congratulate our Loker 4th/5th grade chorus on their outstanding performance at Wayland Sings last week! It was quite evident that they worked very hard on learning their songs and made our community very proud. Thank you to Ms. Pisklo for her excellent leadership of her chorus!
Have a great week!
Best,
Brian
