Mr. Mauck's Musings
Last night was a great night for our athletic teams as Volleyball, boys and girls soccer, tennis and freshmen football all won their contests. We are hoping for a sweep tonight and on Saturday. The Marching Wildcats compete at Floyd Central after a great performance where they won Best Music, Best General Effect, Best Visual, Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, Best Drum Major, Overall Grand Champion. Saturday evening at the Calumet the JHS athletic department will be inducting the third class of honorees into the JHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
The United States National MIA/POW Recognition Day is held the third Friday of September each year. The Jasper/Dubois VFW Post 673 annually remembers those who are/were MIA’s and POWs with a county wide recognition service at the Jasper, IN VFW Post 673. The date for this year’s local
recognition service will be held on Friday, September 20th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the post. Please take a moment to recognize these service members.
I would like to thank everyone for obeying the traffic flow patterns in the morning and after school. Please remember that no students should be picked up or dropped off in the front of the school or by the athletic doors. We have also received a request from Health Pointe and Dr. Norris, Blessinger and Woebkenberg that parents refrain from picking students up in their parking lot. It is unsafe for students to cross the north drive while students are driving down the lane. Parents picking up students at JHS should park in the southeast lot and wait for your students to meet you at your car.
Hope to see you all at the homecoming game. Have a fantastic weekend and go cats.

A big thank you to the Student Council and Mrs. Julie Ferguson for all the homecoming activities. This years theme was movies. The classes participated in a hall decorating contest, movie trivia, popcorn tasting contest, and a relay race all live streamed into the student's homerooms. The kids did an amazing job and had some fun. We are looking forward to the King and Queen crowning and recognition of all our court members.

Community Events
Here are a few community events of interest.
On behalf of the Purdue University Women in Engineering Program, I wanted to share information with you regarding a free college campus visit opportunity. The engineering-focused event is called Exploring Engineering at Purdue and is geared toward young women in their junior and/or senior year of high school.
Students who register will enjoy a comprehensive, full-day engineering experience on Monday, October 14, 2024. An optional ‘meet and greet’ on Sunday, October 13, will be offered with extended opportunities to speak directly with engineering clubs and majors. Parents or guardians are encouraged to attend on both dates.
Please view the flyer containing more information. Registration is required, at www.purdue.edu/wiep under the “Events” tab. I’ve added a QR code with the flyer for easy access to this webpage.
We hope you will announce and share this opportunity with your school and colleagues.
Thank you in advance for encouraging your students to explore engineering during this free, day-long event. We appreciate your consideration.
SWICACC Safety Alert
Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition have been made aware of an app that is becoming increasingly popular with kids and teens called Avakin Life. It is a life simulation game similar to Sims, but allows for more private interaction between characters. It is being used by predators to lure kids into being in online “relationships”. Once a connection has been established, the adult will then encourage the child to use another app, such as discord, to share nude pictures and more personal information. While both of these apps have been around for awhile, their usage is growing among kids.
