A Word From Leadership...
Hello Fridley family community,
Join us for conferences on Wednesday, March 5th, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This is a great opportunity to connect with teachers about your student’s progress.
As we approach the final quarter of the school year, we encourage families of senior scholars to engage in conversations about grades, attendance, and credits to ensure they remain on track for graduation.
Additionally, testing season is upon us with MCA’s, ACT, A-reading, and ACCESS testing coming up. It's crucial for our scholars to use the next few weeks to prepare and focus.
As the weather warms, let’s all commit to finishing the school year strong. Thank you for your support, and go Tigers!

Minnesota Student Survey
On Friday, May 9th students in grades 9 and 11 will take the Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). The MSS is a survey that tracks a wide variety of youth behaviors, risk and protective factors and outcomes related to education, health, safety and well-being. MSS is completely anonymous and the data is confidential. The data cannot be tied back to students or their families. Everyone is able to participate in the MSS; however, any parent or student has the ability to opt-out. Students can skip any question or stop at any point.
It is the policy of the Fridley Public School Board that the District comply with the Federal Family Rights and Privacy Act and Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Parents/guardians or eligible student has the right to file a complaint with the US Department of Education regarding an alleged failure by the District to comply with federal and state law. A complete copy of Policy 515 Protection and Privacy of Pupil Records is available on the website:

Extended Day Reminders
If you are a student enrolled in extended day, please know - there are only 19 more days of extended day before the year ends.
The deadline to complete ALL credit recovery is May 15th, 2025
Information about summer school will be sent to families in late April/early May. Students who do not earn credit in a required class must complete credit recovery during extended day and/or summer school. If you have questions about credit recovery, please email your child’s dean.
Registration for the 2025/2026 School Year
Registration for the 2025/2026 school year took place in early February. Students selected classes they want to take next year. Students will receive a copy of their schedule in August during open house. If you have questions about class registration, please visit the Fridley High School registration page and/or contact your student’s academic dean.

The application will close in early April. If you have any questions about the scholarship application or the process, please contact your student’s academic dean.
Let’s Get The FAFSA Done!
Attention parents/guardians of 12th grade students: The FAFSA is an excellent way to get federal and state financial aid (grants and loans) to pay for your student’s college next year and it is free to complete! The FAFSA requires that the student and at least one parent have an FSA ID. You can create an FSA ID HERE. This year’s FAFSA will ask questions about parent/guardian and student’s 2022 taxes. If you would like help with completing the FAFSA, the Get Ready Program at FHS is here to help! Please contact Matt Kiefer at kiefer@isd14.org or 612-516-3206 if you would like to meet in person or virtually before/during/after school to complete the FAFSA!
ACT retakes (12th grade):
12th graders who are interested in retaking the ACT test, should sign up by creating an account on the ACT website. www.act.org . The ACT test does have a fee ranging from $50-$67. Fee waivers are available in the SSS office for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Upcoming ACT tests/registration deadlines:
Test: June 14 Deadline: May 9

How to Send a High School Transcript
All college applications will require the student’s high school transcript to be sent after the application is submitted and again after graduation. All transcripts are sent through our electronic service called Parchment. Students need to create an account. They will keep this account even after they graduate to request their transcript. For more information and help with parchment you can also visit the HS website: https://fhs.fridleyschools.org/academics/academic-support-services
1. Go to the Fridley Parchment website: https://www.parchment.com/u/registration/118798/account
2. Create an account. Registration codes were sent to each student (Fridley gmail). If they do not use the code, students need to make sure they are linked to Fridley High School and choose the correct graduation year.
3. Students may request a transcript. They search for the college, then click “Order”.
The order is not automatically sent. Our office secretary reviews the order, uploads the most current transcript, then sends the transcript.
Looking Ahead: MCA Reading, Math, and Science
The MCAs (Minnesota Comprehensive Exams) will take place starting on April 15 with the MCA Math (11th grade), and April 17 for the MCA Reading (10th grade). The MCA Science (11th and 2th grade) will be given during the week of April 27.
Indigenous Education Class
On Thursday, March 13th during 3rd period, Derek Nicholas (Red Cliff Ojibwe) will be speaking to the students about eating and preparing indigenous foods.
At Wiisinig LLC, we believe that food is medicine. Our focus is to empower communities by reclaiming indigenous food ways. Wiisinig LLC aims to practice and conduct valuable work around traditional practices such as sustainable food production, seed saving, wild food identification, culinary practices, and stories. Our work will help preserve indigenous wisdom and create resources for families and communities.
Ramadan 2025
Thanks to FHS Teacher, Ahmad Samadi for sharing these Ramadan facts.
What is Ramadan? Ramadan is the 9th month of the lunar calendar, and commemorates the revelation of the Quran. It also marks a month of fasting, which most of our Muslim students participate in.
When is Ramadan? The lunar calendar is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar we use. (That’s why Ramadan is at a different time each year.) Each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon. The end of the month is celebrated with Eid-Al-Fitr. This year Eid will fall during Spring Break.
How is it observed? Fasting, prayer, reflection. Many of our students attend taraweeh (تَّرَاوِيح) prayer. This prayer is normally done late at night, meaning that many students are very tired the next day.
Who fasts? Muslims, generally starting at puberty. Generally, elders, those who are pregnant or menstruating, or people with an illness may not fast.
Why fast?
To practice self-discipline/patience; get closer to God
To feel compassion for the less fortunate

Congratulations to our swimmers! They are headed to state!
The concert band performed on February 20th at Anoka High School. They had the opportunity to work with Dr. Heidi Miller, director of bands at Gustavus. We were specifically praised for playing with a lot of HEART and an impressively big sound considering our size. We received an EXCELLENT rating!

Cell Phone Policy
Why don’t we allow cell phones in classrooms during the school day?
We prioritize real human interaction. We believe that learning the skills of in-person communication and collaboration are much more important. Students are already good at using electronics -- they do not need social media practice or gaming practice at school. One of the most important skills our students will learn at Fridley High School is how to get along and work well, face-to-face, with a variety of people.
Electronics are disruptive. Cell phones ringing and buzzing disrupt both the student and the class. We want students focused on the lesson, not who’s calling or texting them.
They cause drama. Students tend to say things online that they would never say out loud. We don’t need extra drama at school.
They get lost and stolen. Unfortunately, as wonderful as our FHS students are, phones are lost and stolen. While we try to help students problem-solve, the school is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Students don’t need them. Every student at Fridley High School is given a chromebook for academic use.
