DISTRICT SPOTLIGHT
The Building Implementation Capacity for Career Advising (BICCA) Community of Practice is an innovative initiative designed to enhance career advising practices in Ohio schools. This 12-month program brings together educators from 10 local education agencies to collaboratively develop and implement comprehensive, equitable, and student-centered career advising plans. BICCA participants engage in a series of in-person and virtual sessions, focusing on transforming career advising policies into actionable strategies that bridge the gap between education and the world of work.
Throughout the program, participants delve into critical aspects of career advising, including the Career Connections Framework and equity considerations. They work on creating tailored Career Advising Plans, integrating student success and graduation plan elements, and utilizing resources from the Career Exploration Collection. Using principles of implementation science, participants develop sustainable implementation plans for their districts. The 10 participating agencies in this year's cohort are Apollo Career Center, Celina Schools, Elida Local, Lima City, Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, Perry Local, Sidney City Schools, Tri Star Career Compact, Urbana City Schools, and West Central Learning Academy. The BICCA Community of Practice not only provides a platform for learning and sharing best practices but also offers ongoing support and collaboration opportunities, ensuring that participants can effectively implement and sustain high-quality career advising initiatives in their districts.
REGION SPOTLIGHT
The Ooey Gooey Adventures on Environment and Play
On September 6, 135 of our most dedicated preschool educators from across the region gathered for a transformative professional development session led by the renowned early childhood education expert, Lisa Murphy. The event focused on the pivotal role that intentional play in early learning environments in shaping the social and emotional development of young children.
Lisa Murphy, an advocate for play-based learning, shared her expertise on how creating environments that encourage intentional, play allows children to explore their emotions, develop social skills, and build essential connections with others. Participants considered ways to incorporate play into their daily routines in ways that foster growth in empathy, self-regulation, and communication.
This event served as a reminder of the profound impact early childhood professionals have on shaping the lives of their students through thoughtful, play-centered approaches.
As a region, we will continue to integrate her work into our Early Learning Leadership Network, teacher virtual sessions, and on-site coaching. We are excited to see how our educators will integrate these ideas into their classrooms to positively impact learning.
