Dear Families, Teachers, & Staff
This week in G.R.O.W., we built on prior lessons by refining ideas for sustainable practices at school. Students worked in groups to brainstorm changes they believe could make a difference, and the most popular answer was: WORMS! 🪱 With their enthusiasm leading the way, we took action.
Thanks to Ryan Misley’s preparation, all the lumber was cut to create five worm bins, and a special shoutout goes to GRITS Farm for generously donating two 5-gallon buckets filled with red worms to kick off this exciting new project! K-8 students worked together to build and paint the worm bins, which will reduce food waste and create compost to enrich our garden. It was incredible to see their creativity and teamwork shine through 🎨🛠️.
Meanwhile, our TK and PK students had a special experience with Mr. Misley, who read a story all about insects 📖. After the story, students got creative by building their own imaginary creatures using materials they gathered from the garden 🐞🌻. This activity was a wonderful way to blend science, creativity, and outdoor exploration.
We’ve included photos of our students in action below! You can also check out our latest social media post showcasing their hard work.
Garden Committee – Join Us! 🌻
In our previous newsletter, I mentioned that we would be sending out information about a Garden Committee. After attending two PTO meetings and one Nature-Based Advisory, I’ve created a Google interest form for anyone interested in joining the Garden Committee.
If you’re passionate about supporting our garden and sustainability efforts, please submit the form and share it with others who may be interested.
Thank you for your enthusiasm and support!
We’re incredibly proud of the dedication and passion these young environmentalists are showing. Stay tuned as we continue growing these exciting projects to make a lasting impact on our school and the environment! 🍃 We hope you are enjoying all that the Fall Season has to offer, stay tuned for more updates from G.R.O.W & Happy Halloween!
