A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
It's hard to believe but November is knocking on the door, and the end of the 2nd six weeks is ONLY ONE WEEK AWAY. That means if you have missing work or you are struggling, you need to be taking advantage of all the tutorials that your teachers are offering (at least 2 times per week). You have to be the one to put forth the effort...be on time to class, turn in all work on time, and attend tutorials if you need additional help. This is high school, so they are not going to chase you down to find the work.
I would not be true to myself, if I did not address the lack of sportsmanship that was displayed on Saturday night from a few parents. During and after the football game, there were several "fans" shouting personal attacks, negative comments and booing, the coaches and our kids by their name or number. I am truly at a loss, because that is unbelievable that parents would do this, but especially to a child. Imagine if this was your personal child, how would you feel? This will stop, or I will have you removed by security at the next game. We all need to be here to SUPPORT each other not cause division. As I tell the kids, if you can't be kind, then be quiet. I understand being frustrated, and wanting to have a follow-up conversation when something is bothering you, but yelling from the bleachers or sidelines, when you are not walking in their shoes is not productive for anyone, especially our kids. Which is the ONLY reason we are all here. As for ALL my coaches, (regardless of sport), what you do not see is...how much time and dedication goes into what they do at the Ranch. In the classroom (they have 75-150 students in class to teach, grade, attend ARDS, and tutor) and on the field (up to 175 athletes) to work with until after dark most evenings. This doesn't include the weekend planning and prep meetings, text messages and phone calls (from parents that they constantly get through out the day and night), classroom visits they make with your child's teachers to see how they can support your child academically so they CAN play sports, and the TONS OF MISSED FAMILY TIME they sacrifice for our Longhorns. Please do not lose sight of WHY we are here....it's not the paycheck, it's YOUR kids, we truly do love and care for them. Please help us by being part of the SOLUTION....being part of the TEAM...being aware how you are making the players, their parents, and the coaches wives and families feel with those belittling comments. Please help us come together as ONE team to hopefully get that WIN and a shot at some playoff memories after it was heartbreakingly ripped away last year by the COVID shutdown. I appreciate your help in making some memories for our Longhorns.
George Ranch High School Pickup and Drop Off
There is NO PICKUP or DROP OFF on FM 762. (the black Camaro and the 4 door white sedan that is STILL doing this please stop). All students must be picked up from the GRHS parking lot or in front of the school. Students CANNOT walk across the parking lot and into oncoming traffic to be picked up on 762. This is a serious safety issue that must be corrected immediately. Please see traffic flow map picture below. Thanks for helping us keep our Longhorns safe even outside the building.

GRHS Weekly News!
FOOTBALL!
The Longhorns dropped a heartbreaker to the Chargers. The highlights from the game were a 45 yard touchdown run by Anthony Lenette and hard nose running of the ball by Brandon Everett and Maddox Laurie. Ian Grisbee did a great job kicking in the gale force winds. Elijah Noska and Jacob Thompson on defense spent more time in the Charger backfield than their own quarterback.
The JV Black Longhorn football team inched out a close victory,7-6, against the Brazoswood Bucs Thursday Night. The lone Longhorn score came on a deep connection between Kurveon McNeill and Keene Farrow. Otherwise the offense was pretty stagnant and didn’t have the opportunity to to put up any more points. Brazoswood did a good job of controlling the clock, and not letting the Longhorns offense on the field to put more points up. The Longhorns have Dulles HS to close out their JV Football season.
The JV Maroon Longhorns defeated the Clements Rangers Thursday Night, 21-0 at Longhorn Stadium. Javon Randle led the offensive attack running hard and gaining ground on a variety of run plays. Defensively the horns were led by Brandon Mays and Joe Hernandez who helped lead the charge in the shutout of the Clements Rangers.
The Varsity Longhorns took a loss Saturday Night to the Clements Rangers 28-13. The Horns struggled to find ground offensively in the first half, and by the time they found their footing after half time it was to late. The Longhorns defense did all they could to keep the game close to allow the team a chance to win, but to no avail. The Horns will play Dulles next week to finish up district play.
GOLF
GR's Varsity A team won the Golf Tournament at Country Place Golf Course in Pearland, Texas: 1st place Team: Mitch Maier (72), Jeremy Nguyen 75, Yeeva Tsewang 83, Shawn Chen 95, Niklas Ekberg Da Silva 92. Mitch and Jeremy also placed well by receiving 1st and 2nd place individual medals, respectively.
Yesterday the girl and boy golf team placed and did well at the GR's River Pointe Golf Scramble. Melanie Maier and Nicole Johnson placed 2nd in the girls field with a score of 70 (1-under par). The boys placed 2nd and 3rd in the scramble with a 68 and 69 (i.e. 3-under par and 2-under par). Mitch Maier and Jeremy Nguyen scored the 68 and Yeeva Tsewang and Shawn Chen shot the 69 2-under).
VOLLEYBALL
GRHS vs. Dulles
The Longhorn Volleyball Program honored their 8 seniors last night at Longhorn Gym as they took on the Dulles Lady Vikings. It was a great night to wrap up district play as all three teams came out victorious. The freshman team started the night off with a quick 2 set (25-13, 25-13) win over Dulles. The JV squad took care of business also winning in 2 sets (25-16, 25-12). The Varsity Longhorn Volleyball team secured the program sweep taking down Dulles in 3 straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-16. Serve ace leaders were seniors #2 Avery Shimaitis and #18 Allie Sczech with 3 aces each. Kill leader was senior #2 Avery Shimaitis with 23 kills. Junior libero #8 Riley Steubing had 17 digs and 16 serve receives for the night. Block leader was junior #16 Eryn Rainer with 4 blocks. Set assist leader was senior #18 Allie Sczech with 22 assists. Player of the match was senior outside hitter #2 Avery Shimaitis.
