Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- Keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Any newly prescribed medication must be hand delivered to the nurse by an adult and must be in the pharmacy packaging. (appointments must be made in advance)

Thank you to our wonderful Tiger Families for attending our annual Muffins for Moms & Matriarchs! We had a phenomenal turnout. Our scholars enjoyed spending time with their family members.

THANK YOU TO PATRICE FEASTER, mother of a first grade Tiger, for helping the PTO restock our volunteer T-Shirts! Patrice volunteered to hand-press the shirts for the PTO. We are so grateful to now be able to provide them to our volunteers!
THANK YOU MUFFINS FOR MOMS & MATRIARCHS VOLUNTEERS! We had over 40 volunteers for this year's Muffins for Moms & Matriarchs. Thank you so much for lending your time and talents to this event. We must send a special shout out to our dad & dude volunteers. Thank you for showing up for us! HUGE thank you to the planning committee for the ideas, input, creativity over countless calls and texts the past 2 months!
Join us for FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT in the cafeteria on Wednesday, May 29, right after the PTO IN-PERSON MEETING!
We will host the Maryland Science Center at CMITNES. They will bring 9 exciting science stations that you and your scholar can visit to conduct hands-on experiments.

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
ELA: We will work on sentence writing, storybook writing, and reviewing sight words that we have learned throughout the year.
Social Studies:We are reviewing topics from the past and the present.
Math: We will be working on mathematical projects in class, using our SAVVAS curriculum.
Science: We are continuing a unit on planting, using different types of beans and watching them grow.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello First Grade Families:
The students had a wonderful time this week during Muffins with Moms & Matriarchs. Thank you for those who were able to come. Next week, we have a short week, and Friday will be field day. Students are encouraged to wear their grade level color this day: Yellow!

Spectacular Second Grade News!
We've almost completed our testing sessions. Please ensure they're getting plenty of rest, starting their day with a healthy breakfast, and most importantly, showing up at school. With your support, we can help them do their best!
Scholars worked so hard and we are proud of them.
Next week in ELA, we will complete Unit 5, Our Incredible Earth. In Math, we will complete topic 14. In Science, we will complete topic 6, Habitats. In Social Studies, we will complete Chapter 6, Our American Culture. As always, please ensure your scholar reads every night.
Please reinforce the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness.

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will be reviewing Chapter 6: A Growing Nation, then they will take the Chapter test on Thursday.
In Math, we are finishing our unit on perimeter and area. Expect a test in the middle of the week.
This week in Science, we will be finishing with adaptations and survival, then we'll learn about fossils.

Fabulous Fifth Grade News!
Tigers! Tigers! We are moving full steam ahead in excellence! Team 5th grade is incredibly proud of your achievements thus far! Thank you for your hard work during MAP testing! Thank you for celebrating Muffins with Moms and Matriarchs! Our scholars truly enjoyed themselves! We also thank each parent that volunteered for the Kings Dominion Field trip! We had a blast! We will now embark on a week of camping and field day adventures! Get ready! We are moving full speed (STEAM) ahead and will soon be preparing for our upcoming promotion ceremony held on June 7th, 2024! Way to go Tigers! You did it!
Promotion Ceremony
Our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on June 7th, 2024. Ms. Tellis and Ms. T. McCants will celebrate at 8:30 am. Ms. Linton-Philp and Ms. D. McCants will celebrate at 11:30 am. Please arrive on time. We will begin promptly as scheduled. The attire for this event is DRESS to IMPRESS. We ask that you dress in your best and enjoy the festivities. Thank you for your support! Tickets will be dispersed to your scholar. Three (3) tickets will be assigned to each student. If a graduating student has a sibling that attends CMIT North Elementary, that sibling does not need a ticket to attend. Thank you for your attendance and making this ceremony a success! We look forward to this auspicious occasion!
Camp Schmidt
Thank you for all the donations for the Camp Schmidt trip that will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 28-29, 2024. We look forward to having an amazing adventure and fun filled festivities as we learn about our nature and how to cultivate and preserve our environment! Please make sure all permission slips have been signed and turned in to your scholar's teacher. If you are donating, we thank you again and again! We also ask that you turn in all items as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Shannon McVeigh for further details! Happy Camping, Tigers!
Field Day will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024. There will be allotted stations and activities throughout the day and each class will migrate to each station according to the scheduled plan. Please make sure your scholar is present and is ready to enjoy the festivities! They should wear their blue class shirt. Thank you so much!

RELA
Scholars will read "Ezekiel Johnson goes West." They will study the reading skills of "making inferences" and "explaining the author's purpose".
Science
This week in Science, we are describing the outer planets of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. They will identify common characteristics of the outer planets and recognize that there are moons, asteroids, and comets in our solar system.
Math
This week in Math, students will review multiplication of decimals.
Social Studies
Scholars will begin Chapter 9 Lesson 1. Have a great week!

K and 5th are still steadily preparing for their promotion ceremonies! 1st-4th grade are all learning what it is like to play together in a band!

Greetings,
Tigers have studio time this week. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to plan and work on their projects. Projects include portraits, still life, architecture, and other activities that develop their understanding of shapes and value in 3D images. We will continue to stress planning and craftsmanship.

In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using a mouse and a trackpad to select objects.
3-5 students practiced
Software Fundamentals: Software, Buttons, and Controls
This engaging and interactive digital lesson provides direct instruction and practice related to various types of software. The learners gain knowledge about types of software, how to select the appropriate software to complete a task, and how to use the buttons and controls found in software.

This week, students will make adjustments and modifications to last week's creations to improve their designs.

Kinder scholars are learning about insects!
1st grade scholars are exploring ways to save different habitats.
2nd grade scholars are working creating transportation or tools that mimic a plant or an animal.
3rd grade scholars are continuing their journey learning about coding. This week they are learning about debugging.
4th grade scholars are continuing to work collaboratively to create and deliver a message using only light.
5th grade scholars have begun their unit on Potential and Kinetic Energy where at the end of the unit they will build and test their roller coaster and create a commercial about the coaster that they create with their team.
