Welcome to our weekly newsletter! This newsletter will be sent out every Monday in your teacher's weekly email. Please be sure to read it thoroughly as this will be our main source of communication to you about all things First Grade! We hope you find this resource helpful!

Reading: I can make predictions. I can use reading strategies to help me decode words.

Writing: I can write a small moment story with a beginning, middle, and end.

Math: I can group objects to help me count faster. I can represent the quantity with place value.

Science: I can identify and compare the structure and function of parts of plants.

Social Studies: I can explain the purpose for rules and laws in my home, school, and community. I can explain what it means to be a good citizen in my community.

*Please be sure that your child is bringing back their library books to school on the designated day above so that they can check out new books. Library Books should be kept in their backpacks at all times, unless in use, that way they always have them with them.

2x2 Reading Program Information from Mrs. Buck

Our Texas 2x2 Reading program for Kindergarten-2nd grade students is in full swing! Every student that reads all 20 2x2 books and colors in the space on their boot for each book read, will receive a little prize from our library and get their boot displayed! This reading program runs through the end of the school year, so you have plenty of time! You can find more information on our library website.

Students may only check out one 2x2 book at a time from our Folsom library. I will be adding many of the 2x2 books onto Overdrive Sora and MackinVia, both of which can be accessed via your child’s student portal, so make sure to check on there in the next couple of weeks as well!

Virtual Curriculum Night

Keeping the safety of our community in mind, our annual Curriculum Night will move to a virtual experience. On September 9th, all elementary parents will receive an email that will provide a link to a curriculum overview presentation and subject specific course maps. We invite you to reach out to your student's teachers if you would like additional information.

Patriot Day - September 11th

Although we are not able to celebrate Patriot Day this year with an in-person assembly, we still plan to celebrate this day with our students and families. We will be showing a slideshow presentation in the afternoon on Friday, September 11th. Students will watch the presentation from their classrooms. We will send the presentation to our parents that afternoon to view on your own.

We would like the opportunity to honor any immediate relatives (sibling, parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle) of Folsom’s students who currently serve or have served in the military, or as a first responder. Please fill out this Google Form to submit your family member to be included in our Patriotic Assembly on Friday, September 11th. This information will be shared with the students, staff and parents of Folsom Elementary. Please submit all photos to our Computer Foundations Teacher, Andrea Clark, at agclark@prosper-isd.net.

Hope Squad

Our Hope Squads will continue to sell "Be Kind" yellow T-Shirts as a symbol to simply be kind to one another, which is why you often see "yellow" shirts scattered throughout our district on Wednesdays each week. This stems from supporting our cause of suicide awareness and prevention.

Please Be Aware!

Parents, please know that our class will be making use of video communication tools such as Google Meet this year. This may mean that your student, whether they are at school in person or learning virtually from home, may be seen on video or even recorded.

We would appreciate it if you did not post videos or images of your student’s teacher or their classmates online. We would like to maintain the privacy of the learning environment as much as we possibly can.

Virtual Learning Information

Virtual Learner Parent Norms

Virtual learners require all of the same parent support as students in a face-to-face learning environment. However, there are some additional supports that will help learners reach their academic goals in the virtual learning environment.

Please read over the expectations for parents.

What Will My Child's Day Look Like?

Your child will be expected to sign-in each day at 7:45am and connect with their teacher. Throughout the day they will participate in a variety of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (pre-recorded) instruction. There will be assignments provided each day. Your child will follow a similar schedule to their same grade level peers. The virtual teacher assigned to your child in Skyward will connect with the student/parent for more details about their remote classroom.
