Note from the Director
Dear D303 Early Childhood Families and Caregivers,
This week’s message is in regards to how you can play your part in keeping our children safe when using the drop-off and pick-up line process behind the building. It has been observed and brought to our attention that many preschoolers are out of seats and/or in the front seat as vehicles are moving throughout the drop-off and pick-up line. If you have already been following these established protocols we thank you.
REMINDER:
Ensure your child is properly buckled into an appropriate car seat or booster seat.
Children MUST remain buckled until you've reached a designated unloading space.
This is required by law for child safety.
As mandated reporters, school staff are required to report any violations.
Your cooperation with these procedures ensures children's safety and compliance with legal requirements. Safety is our top priority! Please reference this guide that was linked in our Preschool Press on August 29, 2024.
Best Regards,
Ms. Jennifer Mursu, Director of Early Childhood
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Scheduling Parent/Teacher conference appointments will open in the coming weeks. Our goal is to meet with each family to partner on behalf of each child attending Haines Center. Schedules are not yet open.
It is not necessary for your child(ren) to attend. If you are not able to arrange child care we would still like you to participate. We would rather you bring your child(ren) with you so we have the opportunity to partner with you.
If transportation is a barrier to attending a parent/teacher conference please notify Tricia Sabathne, Child and Family Educator (CAFE). tricia.sabathne@d303.org OR 331-228-572
Traffic Alert: Friday September 13
Families Afternoon (PM) Students:
On the afternoon of Friday, September 13, traffic around the downtown St. Charles area will be re-rerouted due to the St. Charles East High School Homecoming Parade.
Car riders: Plan accordingly as it may impact travel to and from Haines (route and travel time).
Bus riders: It is possible buses may be late.
Main Street will be closed from 6th Street to 2nd Avenue from 12:45 - 2:30 pm
Traffic will be rerouted onto Illinois and 7th street.
Safety: Haines Center Campus
Car Riders - Drop-off and Pick-up Line
Illinois Laws are in place to ensure the safety of school zones:
1) All young children must be in a car seat or booster seat and buckled until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. ONLY unbuckle your child(ren) when your vehicle is in "park" at your unloading spot .
2) When a school bus is stopped to pick up or drop off pupils, the vehicles in all lanes of traffic must stop on two-lane roads. All traffic must stop on 9th street when buses have their stop arms out and flashing lights.
3) NO CELL PHONE USE while driving and in school zones, including during the use of the car lane. Remain attentive to your surroundings and off phones.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
In addition, keep the crosswalk CLEAR for pedestrians when using the drop off/pick up lane.
When using the car lane STAY IN THE LINE. Do not leave the line to go around cars that are in front of you... even after you have unloaded or loaded.
Attendance Line
To report a student absence:
- Main Haines building number- 331-228-3400
- Press 1 for the Early Childhood Center
- Press 1 for the Attendance line
- Clearly state your child's name and the reason for their absence.
- If you do not provide a reason for their absence OR do not call the absence will be unexcused.
Bus riders: There is no need to call transportation to report an absence. Drivers stop at each designated stop even when children are absent to stay on schedule for the rest of the route.
Playgroups
