Highlights of the Week
I want to say thank all the parents that who attended our Parent Council Meeting on Tuesday. It is a great opportunity to learn more about what is happening at our school, as well as give the school feedback or ask any questions. Some questions that arose were about the learning that happens during our SEL block and the new requirement to obtain a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector in order to volunteer at our school. I will try to clarify these questions below.
I want to say another thank you to the parents and community members that volunteered to make us breakfast Thursday morning. It was a delicious meal and a great way to welcome everyone back for another year at Donalda School.

Students of the Week
Jordyn Erickson
Jordyn has shown quiet leadership in our Junior High classroom this week. She leads by example and advocates for her learning in such a mature way. Jordyn has also been so welcoming to me, as a new staff member joining Donalda School. I have greatly appreciated Jordyn’s presence this first week and look forward to getting to know her more this year.
Maxton Bakkers
Maxton has consistently been a kind and helpful classmate. Maxton spent extra time in the gym storage room after indoor recess helping his peers properly put away items. He also held the door open at arrival and gave other students high fives as they came in. His leadership skills are evident, and he serves as a great role model for others. Maxton’s positive attitude and willingness to help others are truly admirable and he will continue to inspire others through his actions!
SEL Block
SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Block is a twenty minute block where the whole school is together each day.
- Mondays: We celebrate Student of the Week and silent read.
- Tuesdays: We are learning more about the indigenous communities in our area. This is new this year, and the intent is for students to gain a better understanding of Indigenous teachings, culture and traditions to help us grow more of an appreciation for those that lived on these lands for thousands of years.
- Wednesdays: Deanna (FSL) and I work with the students in developing social emotional skills, such as grit, determination, empathy, and compassion.
- Thursdays: Reading Buddies
- Fridays: The school is split into 7 groups lead by our grade 9s where they learn to work cooperatively through team challenges.

Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
Clearview has implemented a new policy this year for anyone volunteering in our schools, including volunteer drivers, to provide a criminal record check with the vulnerable sector. This is another layer to ensure the safety of our students while they are in our care. Questions came up wondering what volunteer activites require a criminal record check and which ones don't. A good guide to follow is if you are volunteering in a position that places students under your care or direct supervision a criminal record check is required.
If you anyone has more quesitons regarding criminal record checks, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you plan to have a criminal record check completed, below is a link to a form that you can provide the RCMP to have the fees waived.
I want to thank all volunteers in advance for everything you do that makes Donalda School a better place!
